How to get back from feeling targeted

I've been struggling with this for a few months and could use some unbiased opinions. Of course I can't tell all the details in a public forum, so if you think you could help me more specifically send me a private message and maybe we could email about this issue. I have been in EMS since...

    EMT Student advice

Make sure you take the NREMT in case you want to move. There are more opportunities in bigger cities esp if you are willing to drive a little bit. I would suggest working in the field and getting experience. A good EMT will save a medics ***!!!

    Muslim Hijabi in EMS

Thanks SOOOOO much for all your positive words. The material is stretchy and yes could easily be pulled off in two seconds. When I was an ED nurse and wore it, the drunk patients would make the worst comment. One called me a ninja once!!! :D:D:D I know there may be occasional people talking...

    Muslim Hijabi in EMS

I have been a PHRN for about 5 years - worked as an ED nurse prior for 10 years. I currently work in EMS, night shift, in a city of about 150,000 in the Midwest. I am Muslim and have been more than happy to discuss it with anyone who asks but I certainly do not push my beliefs on others. I am...

Would You Volunteer in Another Country?

I think it depends on the scenario as well - I wouldn't be putting my bare hands on a bloody person, but I wouldn't do that here. It probably depends on the acuity, language involved, lots of factors, but I might go look. Depending on where you were, what if you did something and the person died...

    teaching OB to paramedics

I've already done the NAEMSE instructor course, thanks. :) I looked at their "trading post" and didn't see any OB related material. I agree about the breaks and I dislike powerpoint for the same reasons you mentioned. I would *much* rather write on a board, have people ask questions, get them...

    Assignment: Afghanistan

I know this post is kind of old (and long!) but it was interesting to me to read - I'm an RN and am planning on going to the West Bank and Kabul this summer to work at a hospital (well obviously two different ones). In Gaza I have some connections and people to stay with, in Kabul I'll be at...

    teaching OB to paramedics

I'm doing a three hour lecture on OB to a class of about 20 paramedics in a couple of weeks. Usually I do mostly skills stuff to EMT-basics so this will be my first "big" lecture and I want to be really prepared! The main lecturer gave me his outlines, powerpoints, materials to cover, etc...

Girl, 10, Gives Birth in Mexico

Dont forget there are a lot of child brides in African and in India, they end up having children really young (I'm not sure its 10 or 11 but I bet you its between 12 and 14) when they are married off and the really young childbirth is a big problem there. They usually end up delivering...

    EMS secrets

I love the website postsecret.com - I've been reading it for years and saving secrets from it. I have thousands saved. Here are some EMS related secrets I can remember offhand. I'm sure there are others relating to medicine/fire service/police/etc I could post too but these stuck out in my memory.

when pts ask you personal information

I guess I dont feel embarrassed or ashamed - I love talking about my religion, and you're right people often are surprised to learn about how peaceful Islam is, etc. But I think that I'm worried what they'll say or something. I wouldn't go into a store and engage the shopkeeper in a discussion...

when pts ask you personal information

Maybe this doesn't happen quite as much on the back of an ambulance because you don't have quite as long with your patients, but in the ER I am always asked lots of questions by my patients who may not be as sick as some of the others. When I'm going to be in a room for awhile, starting an...

    no church in the wild

Well right but you also have the Eastern European and East Asian girls who are generally treated as sex slaves not to mention how its still way to common to be whipped or executed for sex outside of marriage in Saudi Arabia or other countries that still exist under their misinterpretations of...
