With there being some discussion about EMS requiring a degree in the future, I wanted to ask everyone on here a multi part question:
1) Do you have a college degree?
1a) if yes, was it completed before you got into EMS?
1b) If yes, what is the higher degree you have earned?
and lastly, is your degree EMS related (if not please, list your major / area of study)

Completely independent of my nursing education:

1) Yes.
1a) No.
1b) AAS in Emergency Medical Technology, that I completed about 1.5 years after finishing my paramedic program.

The process of earning my nursing degrees didn't start until a few years later.

No college degree whatsoever.

N/A.
1b) If yes, what is the higher degree you have earned?
N/A.

I think if I ever got an EMS-related degree it would need to major in critical care. Other than that, at this point, I have no desire to pursue EMS in any other fashion beyond that of the role of a prehospital critical care provider.

I quickly learned, I am a clinician, not a manager. If, or when I get a degree I would not mind it being completely unrelated to healthcare, and/ or for it to afford me the luxury of walking away and into a new career field altogether.

Majoring, and brushing up in my native tongue certainly has its appeal on more than just monetary levels. I would also love to learn a third language, likely Nahuatl.

1. Yes I have 3 degrees
1a. First degree was completed at the same time as I was getting into EMS
1b. I will complete my Masters Degree in Emergency Health Management in 2 months and I also have a Business Degree and a teaching degree.
I have found all of these credentials to be beneficial to me personally when it comes to employment and other opportunities outside of my department that I am involved in but everyone creates their own path.

1) Almost.
2) I could finish my AAS in Paramedicne, but it wouldn't transfer for much. So I'm spending the extra time on a AA.
3) I plan to get a BA in Healthcare Administration then a MPA or MBA.

How do you like the program? It's in my list of maybes.

I like it. I don’t find it particularly challenging, but then again, I never found school to be a challenge. I don’t mean that to brag, it was just never difficult for me. There is a fair amount of research and papers to write. If you have good discipline and can self motivate, you’ll be fine. It is VERY EMS specific. If you’re planning an admin job, it’s helpful. Pair that with EFO from the National Fire Academy and you’ll be rockin’.
