Hi All,

Hoping to get into the P School next year, was wondering if anyone knew of a site, or book I could get prior to help me prepare for it? Whether is memorizing drugs, acronyms, etc..
Thx

Search feature is your friend, this question comes up a lot on this site and has been answered before. That said anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology would be better to learn then anything else.

Forget memorizing drugs unless you work ALS. Just have a solid A&P foundation to know how everything works together.

Hi Guys, thanks again. Revisiting this a little bit to plan out my semesters better

What about Chemistry? Did anyone who took Chemistry benefit from it at any point during paramedic school?

So far I will be taking Arrythmia, A&P, and am also thinking Medical Terminology, Basic Chemistry, Pharmacology. (not all at once obviously)

For some reason my school requires College level math completed as a pre req to take general bio.. so for time purpose I decided not to take that.

I wont be apply for medic school until next year, so in the mean time I want to hit the books that will help my success academically.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I took Chemistry and also A&P before doing either P or RN school. I found that this knowledge did help me quite a bit when we were doing pharmacology. In both programs, pharmacology was embedded throughout and not a separate course. If you're going to take pharmacology, at least take A&P before you do, if you haven't already, because that'll help you learn it. Chemistry also would be helpful if you get into really learning how the meds are cleared.

Thanks! My plan is - Medical Terminology in the summer, Fall would be A&P, Human Bio - Spring: Pharm & Basic Chem

Would this be a good way to stack them? I just want to keep them as relevant to each other as possible.

Any other courses, or other things you would recommend?

Thanks again for the reply.

Do you have basic English comp done? An algebra class would help. A public speaking and technical writing class are good. Statistics will help.

All of this will help you turn that vocational paramedic education into a real, well rounded education and will count toward your degree.

From a non-degree having paramedic who has mostly none of these classes under my belt, heed their advice, OP.

It sounds like you're on the right track, and if so, I hope more of your peers, and future paramedics-to-be have a mindset like yours.

We're in desperate need of bright-minded, well-rounded, professionally-driven folks. The follow through on all of the classes leading up to paramedic school will keep you leaps and bounds above most of your paramedic classmates.

I don't know what your end goals are, but whatever they are, all of the above will not hurt you one bit, only propel your growth.
