No different than using the Verizon hotspot that's installed in my ambulance. WPA2 is pretty standard.

So an update; Philips has entered into my top 5 list of vendors who don't actually know how to work their own product. That said, all the tech support people were courteous and seemed reasonably knowledgeable about their own little area. Unfortunately, those areas seem to have very little overlap. For reference, this was the question; What is the simplest method to connect the MRx to a PC via bluetooth and transmit 12-lead and vitals data for input into an EHR?

Here's the rundown so far:
• I downloaded documentation for connecting the MRx for data transfer via Bluetooth to PC from Philips website.
• That documentation recommended installing "Philips Data Messenger" onto the PC and reading its documentation.
• "Philips Data Messenger" documentation recommended installing "Philips Event Review Pro" and reading its documentation.
• "Philips Event Review Pro" documentation recommended installing "Philips Telemedicine server and viewer" and reading its documentation.
• Installed all three, and configured them.
• Mentally noted that this is FAR overkill for the intended use.
• Still unsuccessful in getting the MRx to talk to the PC.
• Went to Philips website and called their customer support number.
• The rep that answered the customer support line gave me the email address of my local tech specialist.
• As it turns out, that person is not in fact the local tech specialist, they are the local sales rep.
• Not that it mattered, because somebody else responded to my email to him, via another email address with a follow-up phone call.
• That person sent me an email questionnaire and referred me to a different tech support line, and transferred the call.
• The person that answered that line began troubleshooting from the beginning, and got me precisely as far as I had already come by myself.
• That tech support person patched me into another department, which was out at lunch.
• They returned my call after their lunch, and initiated a party line with the last two people I had spoken to.
• Lunch dude got me as far as successfully transmitting raw event logs to the PC.
• Lunch dude did not know how to convert the raw logs to an EHR readable/ready format.
• Lunch dude referred me to another department, they will call me back tomorrow at 1pm.
And that was the easiest and least frustrating part of my day today.

I can't stand the LPs and the only Zoll monitor I like is the ProPaq. I can run an MRx with my eyes closed but that's just personal preference.

Have you gotten to use the ZollX series monitor? It is like the ProPaq but upgraded hardware and software. And very light. I used to love the LP12 till I went to the zoll. But I have a feeling if I was given an MRx to use I would be happy once I figured out the monitor.

I like the X. My service is trailing the MRX. Im not in love with it. 12 lead quality is meh. I'm hoping we go with LP15s. Still my favorite.

Update: The last set of Philips tech misconfigured Philips Data Messenger, which is why it was not processing the raw data into EHR readable HIC files. Today's tech fixed the configuration and we should be good to go once ESO's tech support get's back to me regarding the process of importing into their software.

I'm curious about the importing to iPad function that someone mentioned. Are you saying there is no way to import data from any monitor to an iPad? We're not doing it now, but we were assured that it was not an issue.

I'm surprised you're having such an issue. We do it all day every day with zero issues at all. Every now and again you may have to restart a toughbook because the Bluetooth is being finicky but that's pretty rare.

Via WiFi, yes. Via Bluetooth, no.

Okay. I'll have to look at how they're proposing to set our stuff up. There was talk about uploading monitor data to a secure central server and then being able to fetch the data for your patient and import it into the chart. I'm very happy with iPCR, but the monitor integration is a big part of what we're going to purchase next.

That sounds like Philips Telemedicine server. Event Review Pro allows supervisor review of the server stored data. Data messenger accepts it from the monitor and tells it where to go (MIC/HIC files, email, print, or to a central server (yours or a hospitals)

So, this may be the final update on this sordid affair. I started off this process by asking ESO support if they support Philips MRx monitor vitals and ECG data for import into their online EHR, they say yes but talk to Philips to get HIC files. Cue process with Philips to actually get said data onto the PC in HIC format. Then back to ESO support which now informs me... we do not support Philips monitor data in the online EHR. You can "attach" the HIC file to the chart (in that you can attach any file you please to a chart really), but it does not import vitals or any kind of information INTO the chart.

They tell me if we want to import vitals data right into the EHR, we will need to buy a site license for the ESO Android/Microsoft App (not the online EHR you get to by http://www.esosuite.net/ehr/#/) because the online EHR doesn't support this from Philips, only Zoll and PhysioControl cloud imports. I was told I would be called back today about pricing to do so. I was not called back today.

And yet the saga continues. I just received a call from a different regional rep at ESO and he assures me 100% that:

  • ESO does not charge for the web app as I was previously informed by the tech support.
  • The ONLINE EHR can indeed import an MRx .HIC file, not just attach it as I was informed by their tech support.

I'm off work for awhile so I'll update in a week or so how this little epilogue turns out.

I was not aware the online app supports any monitor uploads. We were told we could only do it from the tablets (that are not using the app) by the rep. We have people on the ESO steering committee, things are still not consistent.

Ok so with my last conversation with ESO we ended up with the following:
  • There is no charge for the EHR App (versus the web-accessible online EHR). You login to the administration panel from the Online EHR and download the App from the EHR->Version section.
  • The Online EHR cannot import HIC files. The EHR App can, and that option is setup when installing the app.
  • The EHR App only works on Windows devices, no Android or Apple Apps are available.
  • You can start a chart with the EHR App, import your monitor data, and finish the chart with the Online EHR, but not vice versa.

So I've got it all playing together nicely now. If anyone runs into this issue shoot me a PM and I'll see if I can help walk you through it :)
