Not much.

Hospital based 3rd service with a large rural coverage area. CB Fire/Rescue covers Crested Butte.

It is RURAL MEDICINE.

GVH is a Level IV with 24 inpatient beds, gen surg, OB.
Closest Level III is Montrose about 1.25 hours no passes.
Closest Level II is Grand Junction about 2.25 hours no passes.
Closest Level I is Denver 3.25 hours over Monarch Pass

HEMS come from Grand Junction with alternates from Frisco, Durango, Colorado Springs, or Pueblo.

Large IFR capable regional airport takes fixed wing from Denver. (Also means you can catch 737s to the West Coast or Denver).

If you like outdoors, it is an AMAZING place to live, pretty affordable too. Hunting, backpacking, kayaking, rafting, skiing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, you name it! It gets cold in the winter.

Thank you. It sounds a lot like the medicine I like to be apart of. Rural with long transports. People are usually very sick when they call and you have to manage sick for a long drive. Sounds like they might fly patients quite a bit too.

One of our medics left to go work there when his wife took a job a the hospital. They have some weird staffing from what I understand from him, I think you work a 24 and then are immediately on call for 24 to do transfers/2nd out. They're a CCT agency as well, CCT are the only RSI medics. Decent protocols, also do low angle rope rescue with gear on the ambulance.

Gunnison is a cool little town, but it is little and not close to much. Has a small state college in it. As mentioned, it gets cold AF in the winter.

Thanks for the information. There is very little about them online. But seems like it would be a fun agency to work for. Plus good skiing not that far away!

Andy why didn't you mention the helicopter? Or do you work there and you dont want me calling you if I get a job there?

They have been hiring for years and years!! I actually considered them back in 2003 before I went to Alaska instead. Those were my final options at that time. I always wonder what it would have been like...

I believe not to long ago it hit -50 degrees and killed about 70% of the mule deer herd. Needless to say my dad was disappointed, he went backpack hunting the year after that winter. Lets say he hasn't gone back unfortunately.
