Hey!

I was wondering for those of you in the field already, what kinda of shifts are available for EMT's who are part time? I'm planning my Senior year as an undergraduate and plan on working as an EMT after I receive my certification very shortly.

Thanks!

If you give us some more information about where you are and where you are looking for jobs... we may be able to help.

Short story... I've worked PT as an EMT for several years, between different companies in my area. Are you already an EMT?

In general, shifts available range days and nights, between 8s, 10s, 12s, 13.5s, 24s, NICU, PICU, PB ALS, BLS, etc. Your shift options will vary greatly based on where you work, though...

Around here PT either means you work 2 days a week.

Or you just pick up open shifts. Kind of like a per Diem kinda thing.

It varies from 8-24 hours. Totally depends on the place you are working.

I am currently working part time, a 24 and a 12 every week.

What services are available to you in the area? If you are near a large urban area with one of the big boy corperate services, then you probable have a lot of shifts with different time slots open. If you have nothing but the smaller mom and pop shops around then your chances for shifts will be more limited. I know that is a little vague but without more detailed info, you probably won't be able to get more of a clear response.

I live in Orlando FL so very urban, with tons of hospitals. I'm aiming to apply for Rural Metro here, I talked to some people who are currently employed by them, and they seemed to like it overall.

Whats the salary for EMT without overtime and with overtime (10-20 hrs)? I'm getting involved in EMS prior to PA School because I want to focus on EM. My goal is live comfortable and enjoy my job, while paying off some student loans before PA School.

Thinking about money while being an EMT is depressing.

You will not come close to making a living, much less paying off loans working less than 40 hours a week in the majority of EMS jobs.

Not happening, bubba. Especially as a basic. And even medic if you're talking about paying loans AND living comfortably.

This guy...

I work a minimum of 82 hours every two weeks and kinda live comfortably. So good luck with that.

Oh, it's not that bad. I live in the middle of nowhere and I work 100 hrs a week and live perfectly well off.

She said every two weeks. Not every week. I'm sure if she worked 60hrs of OT a week, she'd be living the high life. (Though it's easy when you don't have time to spend it anyway)

Exactly. I have enough on my plate to be working that much.
