I have my NJ and PA certifications, so can I submit the same con eds to both states for recertification or do I have to take different ones for each state?

You will have to contact both states to see if the recognize where ever you got the con eds from.

Con-Eds are Con Eds.

If you're an RN, for example, they don't care that you're a paramedic, too.

(I could be wrong; I was wrong once! )

Michigan only accepts them from recognized sources. The course has to be approved by the state.

I cant just teach a class, hand out a cert, and say it counts.

To judge from my online CEs, New Jersey is, typically, weird about such things. I don't know the specifics, though. In MA, there is a process for requesting "special credit" for courses without OEMS approval, and other state's CEs tend to qualify nicely.

Perhaps if you checked NJ OEMS's site...

Can you apply for exemptions for classes taken out of state? Seems like it would be tough to keep a license active if you weren't living in MI full time.

There is a national ce organization thing. I Can't remember what it's called. But Michigan recognizes that. So as long its through them I think.

Not entirely sure though. MMiz would know.

New Jersey's recert is all pretty much automated now, because all your credits are supposed to be entered on the Learning Management System (www.njoemscert.com). But I'm about 95% certain that the credits transfer between NJ and PA, because I know a lot of people who hold both cards. n=>1, even if anecdotal. :)

If you've taken credits in PA, I suggest just calling OEMS. They're a little overworked, but generally helpful people. They can tell you if NJ will recognize the credits, and how to get them on your transcript for recertification. Or if you've taken your credits in NJ, then call PA. Either way.

Hey I am EMT in PA, What would I need to do to get EMT in NJ as well?

Well, you don't /have/ to get a NJ card. Your PA card is given legal recognition in New Jersey.

NJAC 8:40A-7.3 Reciprocity
(a) A person validly certified as an EMT-Basic by the NREMT, the State of New York or any member state of the Atlantic EMS Council (currently Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia) shall have status as an EMT-Basic. No further testing shall be required, and the EMT-Basic certification card issued by the out-of-State certifying agency shall be valid for the purpose of proof of EMT-Basic certification. This section shall not be construed to permit a person to practice beyond his or her certifying state's scope of practice.

If you want a NJ card, you have to fill out a reciprocity application on the website I mentioned, send them copies of your cards, take a Core 13 refresher, and sit the state written exam.

That might change as of January 1, though, since Core 13 is going away.

However, Every 911 agency I applied to wanted me to have my New Jersey card.
