If I were to spend the time, I could comb back through ALMOST every single post and find the thread slide into one or two of about five categories:
1. Protocols are not rules but suggestions (but mine are better than yours and how dare you break my protocols).
2. What are the best brands of tools/vehicles/clothes?
3. EMT's should carry guns to protect themselves and make battlefield rescues in hostile neigborhoods...and here's my favorite gun...(or knife).
4. Don't you think that what I saw happen was just awful? (I should sue, shouldn't I?).
5. Wow, did I get drunk last night!

I'm sure I missed some, but watching thread subjects get stuck in the same old ruts is like the old game where you spell out any number, count the letters, spell the number they add up to, and eventually they all boil down to four.

Oh, wait, I forgot the least sociable one of all: "Well, if you had read the thread/listened to me/had a brain/were possessed of any shred of human decency, then you would have known _____".

Can we please try to elevate this above that sort of juvenile, socially retarded tripe?
If not, I'll just have to hold my breath until we do!

Any themes I missed??<_<

I'm betting I get about five responses (or less)...

and five is four.-_-

Well said

6. Now you're just being a whacker...
7. But I can't find a job!
8. Should I become an EMT so I can savez the livez?!
9. You see, THIS is what's wrong with EMS!
10. Here's a story about some EMT/Medic/FF being a jerk! Clearly, this must mean you're all jerks!

11. Help me pass NREMT-B/P exam. It's so ridiculously hard!

Ya'll forgot...

12. Vollies are nasty vile creatures.
13. Fire based EMS is better.

(or the exact opposite -factual- statements)

No we are not always on duty. However, using knowledge and skill (starting an IV and pushing medications, checking pulses and confirming asystole) taught to you so that you might heal is a violation of your ethical duty as a medical provider. This is not only my opinion but the opinion of the AMA, NAEMT, and many medical ethicists.

well if you had taken the time to have read my post you would have known I carry a Glock ....and I got drunk last night.

14. I'm a newbie EMT/still in EMT class, and I know everything, and the guys that have been doing this for years are mean and I know everything, don't you think?

15. how much does the new show trauma suck?

16. the medics/emts/fire department were mean to me, they disrespected me, so instead of actually doing something about it, I want to whine about it on here

17. what gear do you keep in your POV/jumpkit?

You know, I'm laughing and cringing at the same time.

But I guess it's innocent enough to participate in these once or twice, or if someone seems genuinely bewildered!!

A forum which is also an archive reinforces the feeling of this. I think part of what we need to do is use the search function, and appreciate the newer feature where the machine tries to remind us of threads with similar themes.

(It had NO clue what to do with the title of THIS one!) .

Folks need to relax a little here, I think. In reality, there isn't much new under the sun technically, although politically, ethically and economically ther's new stuff every week. But not attractive to people still at the "shiny window punch" level.

How about this as a first step: Use the instant messenging and chat functons!

Make it an (unenforceable) convention to drop to the unused chat room to ventilate and call each other sophomoric names, and try to save the actual thread/response scheme for more elevated discussion. Sorta like the channels on Citizens' Band radio? And exchange focused interpersonal exchanges via IM or email when there's no real point in parading personal animus in front of the rest of us?;)

Oh, yeah, forgot.

ten is three and three is five and five is four.

well if you had taken the time to have read my post you would have known I carry a Glock ....and I got drunk last night.

I can think of one addition to make that a perfect night out.

silly mycroft, you forgot to add another theme is posts that whine about the forum, this one included.

and alot of the people posting have to prove that they don't know how to use: grammar, punctuation, spell checkers, sentences and paragraphs.

Guilty.

 ANd "Review"
And carpal tunnel syndrome.

You're forgetting my personal favorite.

18. EMT-B's need 4,000 hours more education/Go to medic school/If only EMS educational standards were increased the world would shine, the wars would cease, and humanity would ascend to a higher plane of existence

15. how much does the new show trauma suck?

Actually, if someone posts to the effect of number 14, then they are far more likely to word number 15 as "How cool and realistic is that new show Trauma... I want to be a Superhero too... wait, BRB... I see a spot on my NREMT Cert. I need to shine it again...."

17. what gear do you keep in your POV/jumpkit?

Followed by 17a: How to I get Medical Grade Oxygen filled for my POV without a Rx? Of course, that question has been asked about every piece of medical gear out there, right up to that "really cool Portable Burn Center that they have in Galls.." j/k

18. EMT-B's need 4,000 hours more education/Go to medic school/If only EMS educational standards were increased the world would shine, the wars would cease, and humanity would ascend to a higher plane of existence

How do you think God got to be omnipotent? That's right, 4,000 more hours of education... Has to be logical and it would explain the Para-God Syndrome.
