At the local racetrack doing a standby during the races.

Never done this before and gotta say this is so cool! I can't believe I am getting paid to sit here and get to watch the race for free! Gotta say I have the best job in the world ;)

There was almost a redneck fight in front of us between the moms of 2 drivers that crashed...does that count as fun?
 
I did a standby at the Arizona Proving Grounds where NASCAR was testing new cars. People were telling me how amazing it was that I got to do it but I just didn't get it. I couldn't figure out if I wanted to do another standby there or just stay home and stick needles in my eyes.

Doing a standby at Havasu Raceway was the same thing, except now I was constantly worried about a crash. Take 10 - 15 12 to 14 year olds racing around a track at speeds up to 75 mph - add parents encouraging the little ruffians to "go get 'em " a prescription for disaster if you ask me. Ever been totally bored and highly anxious at the same time?

I will do everything in my power to avoid race track standbys.

i loved working races but i would never work the track always the stands. nothing like a bunch of drunk rednecks.

Great! It sounds like you really enjoyed it. Car racing is not my thing, but I do love to watch Supercross. I used to race back in the days when there was just Motocross.

Hopefully you will get to do it again, as long as you enjoyed it that is what counts. Nothing like getting to do a job that you love.

And they make a left turn and here they come to a left turn, and now they approach a left turn and check this out another left turn.

Guess that is why beer sales are so high at races. Maybe beer goggles make it better?
 
Its just more fun watching the wrecks and all to be honest. I'm not big on the whole round and round and round thing either. Although the figure 8 is a lot of fun and so was the figure 8 school bus race :p
 
I think my standbys beat this. I get to do all the big events in DC, including the 2009 presidential inauguration!

I remember my first track standby was fun for the first thirty minutes of the six hours we were out there....
