Just wondering how you utilize your pockets. I've been wearing normal duty pants, but I'm thinking of changing to cargo pants as I'm running out of pockets! (We are allowed to choose Black EMS Duty Pants or Black Cargo Pants).

Anyway right now (I'm right handed):

Right Side Pocket: Wallet (inside) Pager (outside)
Left Side Pocket: Keys (inside), Radio (outside)
Right Back Pocket: Gloves (multiple (2-3) pairs), tissue pack (I have allergies); both inside.
Left Back Pocket: Personal cell phone, penlight (when I carry it)

For some reason we don't carry our own stethoscopes or usually pen lights but if i had a stethoscope that'd be around my neck.

I also can't put anything on my belt since that's about exactly where the seat belt sits on me when i'm in the back.

well i dont have huge need for cargo capacity, as i try to carry the bare minimum while working(as it would appear you do as well. bravo!

where i put everything:

one shirt pocket-butts and fuego
back right pants: wallet
back and left pants: field guide
usually just a pair of gloves in one pocket or another.
radio is in my radio strap
cell phone is usually on the console. a few years back, i have a phone with a battery that had about a 30min life and i was too cheap to replace, so it was perpetually connected to the charger. since then, its just become habit, even with the new phone.

my scope goes into my first in bag at the beginning of my shift and if im paying attention at the end of my shift, comes back out. also in the bag are 90%of the supplies i need to do my job, making it unnecessary for me to cary them.

.

So where do you put them?

I store my left hand and right hands in the left pocket.

right cargo: pen light and sheers
left cargo: gloves and glasses
right rear: wallet
left rear: field guide
left: gum, lighter, lint, change
right: smokes, knife, more lint, a button.

Let's see...

Right Cargo Pocket: Personal cell phone
Left Cargo Pocket: Alcohol swabs and tourniquets, company nextel or radio depending on if I need it or if I can get my partner to carry it =P
Right Rear Pocket: Wallet
Belt: Keys and Narcotics
Left shirt pocket: Pen + misc paper

No more medical stuff for me, just photo junk.

Right cargo: Close up glasses (it's an over 40 thing), pen.

Right pocket: LG Voyager cell - great for texting which I don't use, but has nice big display so I don't need my glasses (again an over 40 problem).

Left cargo: Nikon remote control cable (for putting the camera on the end of a mono-pod so I can hold it up high over the crew for a "down shot" of the patient and medics), journalist all weather note pad (the pages are water proof, but I don't like to stand in the rain anyway).

Left pocket: Breath mints (for belching Mexican food), medical gloves (sometimes the medics want me to hold yucky things).

Lower Left Cargo: Extra Nikon SB-800 Speedlight (if you're into pro cameras, you'll know what this is).

My cell phone lives in a shirt pocket when I've got one... otherwise it is in a pants pocket. It lives in my 2nd cupholder in my car when I'm in that, though.
Shirt pockets also have chewing gum and a pen or 2.

seems like most of us here all have one thing in common...breath fresheners.

Our pants are from Aspen, so they are not the bulky EMT pants type. right side, field guide, shears, inkpen. Left side, I have clipped together- ASLS stroke guide, Folded map, with cheat sheet city and county street numbers, Pediatric guide (dosage, etc), small pocket -personal cell phone. Belt-binger for the key, and radio clip, supervisor cell phone.

In my shirt pocket I have my PDA and a pen. Pants, L frt, money in a clip. R frt, pocket knife. Rt leg a pair of gloves, L leg another pair of gloves and an emesis bag. I don't carry anything in my back pockets as I found if I did it was a pain in the a**. My wallet and stuff is in a kit bag in the truck.

I don't carry much. I do have a sh*t holster beside my cell phone for shears, multitool, flashlight. Scope goes around my neck. Pen in my shirt. company narcs in my R cargo pocket. Field guide in my left - out of habit.

I don't do breathmints. I'm CONSTANTLY drinking coffee, and I can't stand coffee with a mint aftertaste. Plus it's a handy assessment tool. If they don't like it, then they're not that sick, because those who really are, won't give a damn.

At the moment...

Rt Front:
chewing gum

Rt. Cargo (inner)
Wallet, gloves

Rt. Cargo (outer)
Shears, O2 Key, station key, locker key

Lt. Front
2 pens

Lt Cargo
Stethoscope
Cell phone

Belt:
Pager, sometimes the portable

Well, we wear these nice coverall type jumpsuit thingys. No back pockets.

Soooo....

Left breast: glasses case (just got them. Another over 40 thing) and hardcover notepad.
Right breast: smokes.
Left front: car keys and house keys.
Right front: Lighter and the occasional small amount of cash.
Left cargo: wallet
Right cargo: Feild guide
Left sleeve has a small zipper pocket and pen slots. This is where I carry my mini Sharpie, my "borrowing" pen (some people will keep them), and my high-speed, low-drag, teflon coated space pen that writes underwater and in zero gravity (for those occasional calls to submarines and the space station).

Duty belt: (left side)- Radio/radio holster. Right side- Blackberry and EMS holster (which contains my shears, mini maglight, and rescue knife)

I used to carry a set of tubes, but I just use the ones in the jump kit or my partner's now.

So where do you put them?

I store my left hand and right hands in the left pocket.

A lot of our trucks don't even have penlights. Usually a 2 pound metal flashligh suffices. Stehtoscopes--one in our first in bag, and a couple on the bench with some different sized sphyg's.

Oh yeah, one more thing. On my right epaulet, I have a carbiner. It's a handy thing to clip an IV bag to so you can use both hands. And on my right lapel mike doohickey, I have my retractable ID clip for my ID card/security pass.
