1. I'm always learning and being challenged, even on the routine calls.

2. I'm continually surrounded by new people and new environments.

What I like the most about EMS is:

how most of the time the basics count most.
(What I like least...but that is another post);)

...is knowing how much of a difference you make when you live and practice in your small hometown. Nothing can prepare you for the comfort you afford your friends when they see a familiar face come through the door in their time of need. It's priceless.

That, when your feeling stupid about something you did, you can always remember a call or hear a story about someone who did something worse than you.

Occasionally getting a front row seat to some of the most ridiculous/stupid situations you couldn't ever fathom on your own.

Being there anytime of the day or night to be a patient's advocate.........

The non-routine of things, commorodity, the self autonomy. If and when I do see professional medics; they are challenged and want to perform at the best..

Right now though, I can think of more of what I hate about EMS than what I love. So I started an opposite thread.

Seeing the world as most people never will, the stories I can tell, the camaraderie, and being the one getting my hands dirty helping somebody else during their time of need no matter how small or great it is.

Whether it is witnessing the death of a family member, assisting in the birth of a new baby, or anything inbetween, just being allowed to walk into a total stranger's front door and bear witness to some of their most private, intimate family moments. (And hoping I make a positive impression/am able to assist them along the way.)

i get to cut peoples clothes off

I can poke people with needles... And get away with it!
