What would make my list number better besides obviously putting down that I'm an EMT. I want a good list number, will the FEMA courses help? I already have ISW 700 & 800. As well as a few others. What did you guys who applied or already on the job put down for your FDNY EMS application?

check out the FDNY mega thread for more details, but from what I heard, FDNY doesn't care what you know, it's all about how well you do on the tests, that is what determines you ranking. In fact, they are going to send you through their EMT class so you can learn to do things the FDNY way.

so do well on the written, do well on the practical, be in great shape, and you will be ranked higher (along with other factors that are beyond your control).

Pretty sure they only care about a patch and a pulse. You get extra points for experience (different amounts of points by type), EVOC/CEVO, and HazMat Ops...

I'm a bit confused, so when you apply you don't get a list number till you finish your physical, physc etc?

I believe (and I could be wrong about this) that it is you get your number after step #2.

And I believe education is formal college education, and experience is time on the ambulance, but it all depends on how well you do on the civil service exam (but I have never taken it personally, so I might be wrong). check out the FDNY mega thread for more info.

Right, I've been hearing two different stories... Is there an actual written exam when you apply for the job? I'll just have to look through the 400+ pages in the FDNY mega thread haha.

Not really it repeats itself quite often on that thread with people like you asking the same questions over and over. If you stick to the last twenty pages you'll have all your answers most likely. Also I've heard of this fancy thing called Google, I think you can type in what you want to know and it helps find answers.
