So, I took the job I posted about a while ago.

I head in to orientation today after I get out of class. Still 40 hours until I get on a truck, and it's not really 911, but should still be fun.

Anyway, I know it's company dependent, but what's the norm in orientation? Like, EVOC and protocol testing?

No, usually no testing.

Usually watching films and reading/filling out paperwork.

A no stress work day.

Possibly going over some of the equipment you'll have available to you.

My service's orientation also covered doing a practical skills demonstration... combitube, suction, and CPR/aed usage. Had to carry a Rescue Randy around quite a bit as well on a pole stretcher, the ferno stretcher, and the stair chair. Nothing major there. Watched a driving video and took a little test on that, which was pretty much impossible to fail. Didn't actually get behind the wheel until field training.

All in all, should be a low-stress day like Hastings said. And congrats on the new job, btw.

Many companys test you with a written test. One service I was apart of actually had a test that all levels took but on several questions they were making sure you would only treat to your level not a higher one.

They also tested skills. It would not disqualify but would let us see what ares you needed help with. Nowif you threw afit when we tried to properly educate you then you were sent packing.

Look forard to going over documentation, dispatch procedures, truck fueling/washing/maint procedures, payroll and HR paperwork, possibly map and facility instruction and testing, etc.

Or if they are a warm body service you might just get handed the keys and told have fun.

good luck.

Expect usual paperwork, EVOC, going over company polices and paperwork.

My company had a test at the end of orientation. 85% to pass, or you re-orientated. I'm not sure, but I thin if you didnt get it then, you found another job!

And there's the drug test, general physical and lifting test. I heard that a member failed the lifting test and didn't get the job recently. Pity.

We had EVOC seperately.

We watched two horribly boring videos. One on AIDS/Transmittable diseases/BSI, and one on OSHA.

We went over the basic protocols.

We saw a stretcher, and then we left.

To get hired we had a practical and written test, so no testing for us!

Depends on the service and the training officer. My current job, I started as a part timer, walked in, someone threw me a shirt and said "You're riding with Dee on M3."

When I went full time, I had to do two 12 hour shifts as a ride along, and pass a skills test, but there had been a Major change in administration, which I might add was long overdue.

My previous and current part time job, I had to take a skills test, combitube, IV, etc and pass a 100 question test with a minimum of 80%.

Every place is different.

Good luck, and welcome to the wide world of EMS.
