I am interested in taking an EMT course with Universal Careers. I spotted their ad on craigslist but wanted to ask around if it was a possible scam of some sort. The school is based out of California. The cost would be 4800 for the entire course. They mentioned something about an initial $150.00 payment to reserve a spot for the grant money. The course involves two parts. Please does anyone have any information about this program.

It's been brought up several times on the forum. And for the most part most people wouldn't touch it with a 25' pole.

It is only a small scam. Go to a community college and pay at least a quarter of that.

If it is an EMT school on craigslist, it isn't legit.

Universal Careers is a scam. Find a local community college, you will save tons of money and get a good EMT education.

Universal Careers is a head hunter agency based out of California for a school in Fredericksburg, VA.

See this thread for more information, including responses from the LA County Local EMS Agency (local government regulatory agency for the EMS system). http://www.emtlife.com/showthread.php?t=20171

Riddle me this: Would you pay half of the annual salary of a very low paying job to get the qualifications for that job, with no guarantee you'll even get past the point of the hiring manager taking one look at where you trained and tossing your application in the trash?

First of all, your screen name made me laugh, thanks for that.

Second, listen to everyone else in this thread, it sounds like a scam. A bad one at that. $5,000 for an EMT course is INSANELY high. You could complete an entire paramedic course for nearly the same price in some parts of the country.

I paid ~$750 for my Basic course through a community college.

And if they exist in your area... join a volunteer department and they will pay the total cost of your EMT program.

Shoot, I paid almost half of that for my EMT AND Paramedic! Emt at a cc here is only $300. Go to a community college.

that place is so lauded on here that i am tempted to just say the OP is a troll just trying to get us all fired up again about how sketch they are!

AVOID, AVOID.

get thee to a jc!
