Ugh, got in trouble

I agree that EMTs should hold a professional appearance in public, to reflect EMS. but at the same time, the kid at McDonald's is probably making more than you. It's not like they're paying you $15-30/hr. EMS is not a priviledge.

anyways, when I read drunk in public, all I could think about is what is said at 3:05 and 5:40 in this video

Actually, EMT-1 in Nashville Fire starts out at around $18 an hour.

Salary: $18.27 - $23.76 Hourly
$1,462.00 - $1,900.58 Biweekly
$3,167.67 - $4,117.92 Monthly
$38,012.00 - $49,415.00 Annually

Working in EMS is most certainly a privelege. I suppose we agree to disagree.

^^^^^^ most EMT's in CA make anywhere from $8.25-$10.50 for 911 and $9.50-$12.00 for IFT's

unless you work for the firedepartment, but thats a small crowd

The typical TN EMT-IV salary starts around $13 hr for 911 service, and about $15 hr for private in rural areas. In Metro areas, you see salaries closer to the $20 range. Paramedics in rural areas of TN usually start at around $15 an hour for 911 services and about $18 for private services. In Metropolitan areas, a paramedic 1 starts at around $26 an hour while a paramedic 3 gets about $29 an hour. Keep in mind that in Nashville, the city's 911 is ran out of Nashville Fire dept.

haha hows the job market down there? flooded with EMT's?

There are so many EMT-IVs in TN right now that it is hard to get a part time or full time position in rural areas, though not impossible. Nashville Fire I know has no positions open right now paramedic or otherwise. However, private services are hiring all the time. Moreover, there is a seeming shortage in paramedics in a lot of areas so the job market is great for them.

Goodness, I should move to TN.

AAA pays $7.50 for 48/72 hr trucks, and 10 for 12hr here
Acadian pays $11.40
AMR pays $10

these are starting wages for a basic (only Bs and Ps in MS)

AAA medics make $14/hr

now I will say NO EMS pays $16 for Bs, 16.50ish for Is, and $17 for Ps.... but look at what you're working in

we definitely agree to disagree. I believe everyone should be responsible for the image they cast of their profession. At the same time, EMS agencies, especially private, can't expect to have the most outstanding members of society when you pay them comparable wages to a kid in highschool working at a fast food joint or walmart. As long as they aren't a felon and maintain a clean driving record, who cares.

You were drunk in public. It's not the end of the world. You were not working while you did it, or driving. It's all very well to say that this reflects poorly on the profession, but certainly there are a lot of EMTs who do that on the clock. Your life is yours. You don't owe the EMS nation an explanation. There are a lot of self righteous EMS folks who might tell you otherwise.

Deal with the legal aspects as you need to. If your job requires you to report it, you might want to.

Best luck,

thank you seenomore. Finally someone not thinking they're some ricky rescue trying to put me down. Well I am just going to roll with it and answer honestly to questions. I am getting it expunged asap

Putting you down would not equal the definition of ricky rescue.

If you lived in a small town I'd be more concerned. In a major metro area you will be ok, just be honest with your employers if asked and do what you need to do for the charge.

As long as you keep your head down in a major city like that and don't be drunk in public AND tell the entire city on the live news you're a paramedic, don't see an issue. I've been to many a event that most of my patients (I live in a large city, work in a small town) would balk at. BUT, that's my personal life and I don't go to the events with my work shirts on. :)

Well, we dont use B's on our ambulances here. We have EMT-IV and EMT-P.

I received a drunk in public, got it reduced to 1 count of disturbing the peace which is still a misdemeanor. I did not loose my license, would never drink and drive, and rarely drinks. (except for the one weekend I was off). I do not have a probation deal or anything. Would this affect my ADL (ambulance drivers license) in California?

this is soo embarrassing:sad: but I have to cowboy up and throw it out there

Answer only when you've been convicted of a misdemenor unless it has something to do with drugs, moving violations, sex crimes or one of the other no-no's that could lose you your license or prevent insurance coverage.

From what I can gather, if you had a Drunk in Public that got reduced to a Disturbing the Peace, you had a Disturbing the Peace, which in my admittedly limited knowledge of the law/le world, isn't that high on the list of things that could screw with your job. If you are required to report ALL convictions to job/state, then report. If only required to report FELONIES, or SOME Misdemeanors, then look to see that Disturbing the Peace (the crime you were convicted of as a result of the likely deal the ADA made to reduce the charge so that you wouldn't go to trial and use time/resources of a prosecutor with undoubtedly more serious cases/a whole boatload of cases to try) is not in the group of misdemeanors you are required to report, otherwise report it and take whatever consequences come your way. I wish you luck, but sometimes you catch a bad break.

So its been years now and I had it reduced to a noise complaint. Now this is expunged. Didn't affect my career much at all.

What to take from this.....

1. be careful when in public. Always function with integrity at all times.

2. If in a legal situation and your career is on the line hire an EFFECTIVE attorney. This investment went a long way

3. Always be upfront with it. In the end we all make mistakes, every time I have claimed this they laughed it off.

If you only saw what my buddy who's a pediatric anathesiologist does your mind would be blown.

Any job is a privilege to have. And to some, not having a job is even more of of a privilege.

Yeah, the greatest minds are devious. That is true. At least I had the chance to learn and move on with a story of course
