Hello.

I'd like some opinions please. Imagine you want to set up a small library of textbooks.

You want to cover physiology, patho, pharmacology, cardiology and ECGs, airway, adult and pediatric emergency medicine as a minimum.

The target audience is EMTs with a minimum of 3 years at university and 1 year internship, but primarily paramedics with an extra year at university and another year of internship.

The budget is limited to $1000 US, so we need to be efficient.

Nothing with the words EMT or Paramedic in the title will be accepted, and we aren't interested in nursing texts.

So give me your list of must have books to cover this requirement!

what is an acceptable age on the books, one or two versions old are usually VERY cheap. Is copyright 2005 recent enough?

Latest editions of anything is preferred

$1000 wouldn't cover 1/2 of it.

Ask the local hospital to let you have access to their medical library and buy yourself some pizza or something.

edit: I will make two lists for you, one with current and one with one version removed (and used) i will report back in 48

I got Marieb's A&P book for like 150$ used on Amazon in pretty decent condition.

While this book is written by a paramedic, don’t let that discourage you. This is by far the best ECG book on the market.

Pizza? Two books? Am I looking at completely the wrong books, or do you guys get ripped off?

So far I have in my list:
Guyton's Physiology
McCance's Pathophysiology (although I can swap this for Robbins at about the same price)
Cameron's Adult Emergency Medicine
Cameron's Paediatric Emergency Medicine
Wallers Medical Pharmacology and Therapeutics
Hung's Management of the Difficult and Failed Airway (although I think I might change this to Darren Braude's book)

for about $700. Still thinking about an ECG book as I've seen more bad one's than good. I'm considering Hurst's Heart, but the copy I have found it not very user friendly and it will bump the cost right up.

So where have I gone wrong here?
 
Netter's is really something for anatomy. A good atlas is probably irreplaceable for any reference-type collection.

In a similar vein, you'll want a comprehensive reference for the ECG. Chou's is hard to beat, although it's a dynamic enough subject that no one source is likely to truly have all the latest.

But is this for reference, or for learning? Similarly is it for a shelf in the library, or a list for every student to purchase?
 
Thanks I'll have a look at Chou and Netters.

These are to start a reference library at the station. I have tried to get the powers that be to consider using the money for some subscriptions to journals instead (we have some institution access but not to some good ones like J Trauma), but they want the books.
