St. Louis Paramedic Nearly Drowns In Apartment Pool

A St. Louis paramedic nearly drowned after having an apparent heart attack and falling into a swimming pool. 36-year-old Brenda Schaefer is listed in critical but stable condition Barnes Jewish Hospital.

The same people Schaefer works with everyday are the ones who saved her life. Paramedics and police surrounded the Southwest Crossing Apartments just before noon Thursday.

Inside the closed off courtyard, paramedics worked to revive one of their own.

After those other residents were able to pull her out her co-workers did CPR for nearly an exhausting hour and half and were finally able to get a steady pulse. In one of the same ambulances she worked in her colleagues rushed her to the hospital and she remained in critical but stable condition until last night.

Sad, it must be difficult to work one of your own.

I wish the best to her family and co-workers.

So young to have a heart attack. They said she swam every day. I wonder what the cause was.

Holy crap! The youngest primary arrest I've seen was a 19 yo male!

Thats got to be a really hard call to work... my thoughts go out to her and her family

Wow! That is so sad! I hate to hear that. I know it has to be tough on everyone she knew. She was so young!!
