My protocol allow me to give paracetamol 1000 mg by oral. I found it is hard for some patient to swallow it . No water in ambulance, Any suggestions ??

Cut the pills or ask supply to stock smaller sizes or oral solution.

We carried water in our trucks to aid in ASA and APAP pill taking. Plus the trucks I'm on now carries Plavix PO tablets, so we use water for those too.
I'd get water, cut the pills, or get he oral suspension

Yea and seriously get some water

1000mg in a single capsule/tablet?

Add water to ambulance.

Is this a trick question?

Just move to rectal meds. No need to worry about water...

lobby for IV tylenol
I've always been under the impression that IV APAP was ungodly expensive. Did it finally come down in price?

I don't know, is $42 for 1000mg ungodly? It's certainly more expensive than tablets but it works great in people who are otherwise npo or can't take pills.

Huh thats much cheaper than i was told by our supply person in pecos

I guess why do you not have a case of water in the ambulance. Every agency I have worked for has had a case of bottled water.

Our protocol is to keep all pts NPO until they've been evaluated and cleared at the ED. Our ASA is chewable and Zofran tabs dissolve in the mouth.

I found chewable acetaminophen online, but the largest dose is 160 mg per tab.

Well there's your problem.

Edit: I honestly can't think of any reason why patients shouldn't be allowed to take two tablets with a few sips of water. On the other hand, I think the utility of prehospital acetaminophen is rather limited, anyway.

There are no specific rules guiding the shape and size of pills
The size of a pill is partly dictated by the amount of drug and other ingredients needed to make a stable dose
you can Cut the pills .

This is what I pay for a case of 24 (1000 mg / 100 ml IV bags ) costs 1019.52 which equals $42.48/dose.
