Hey Guys,
I recently became an EMT-B, and graduated on the top of my class. Was a tough year, but I pulled through it... mainly had other classes going on, as EMS is not my ultimate career, but more as a means to an end. I am in med school, and well, I'll tell you honestly guys, taking a course in EMS was a great start for me. It definitely helps; I understand that there is a great disparity in the EMS education provided to students from state to state. I found that some states have made it ridiculously easy, and well, some made it very difficult, like Illinois (where I studied), Indiana and a few others.
Mainly, I wanted to say, if I can be of any help, please feel free to ask. What I would say to both EMT-B and Paramedic students alike, is to make sure you know your Anatomy and Physiology inside and out... As a medical student, I had the opportunity to work with and help paramedic students, and I would have to say that if any of them were struggling in their classes, it was due to not having a firm grounding in Anatomy and Physiology. Forget just doing well in the class, but if you really, truly want to help your patients, learn about the human body; learn about the different diseases and how to help alleviate the problems associated with those diseases... but yes, just let me know if I can help at all, and I will be more than happy to do so. Everyone take care, and happy new year!
