New company, new type of strecher

Ferno's all the way, hands down. Lightweight, simplicity, cost and all metallic surfaces (easy cleaning) win everytime. Do you really want porous foam grips that will be hard to cleanse bacteria out of? Do you need the extra 200 lb capacity, or should you be calling a bariatric transport?

What's this "locking up" with Fernos you all are talking about? Easy remedies: Maintenance? Take it out of service when sand/grit get into the joints and lube? Besides, on the few occasions the ferno does lock up, all ya do is raise it while holding the trigger then it works good as new. :P

Where I work we have been using the Ferno stretchers for years. We are now using the 35P Proflex. Some of the issues I don't like about it are the way the handles are at the foot end because they are too wide away from the body of the stretcher to release some of the time. We have had that adjusted for us in most of the stretchers so now it is not as big of a problem. The new Ferno cots have come a long way in the past few years I think.

I was wondering who would be the first one - that was all I could think of every time I typed the name.

A few friends are in the local PA National Guard unit that is a Styker brigade... and is over playing in the sandbox of Iraq.

And if you are going to post Styker photos... at least post the one appropriate for this site ;):

Mine IS appropriate--- to the EMS gun discussion thread!

What better way to protect yourself in the ghetto then a 120mm cannon with a coaxial 7.62 machine gun?! Talk about a drive by!

My first job used Strykers, second used Fernos. I have to say I prefer the Ferno cots hands down, far and away. The Ferno cots we use have side lift assist handles, are lighter weight, and don't have those foam/rubber grips which always seem to be ripped.

You would be surprised at the failure rate of Fernos. The tubular aluminum frame was prone to stress fx's a lot. They were a bad design. That is why Ferno followed strykers style on their newer ones.

When you see one collapse with a pt on them, from the frame breaking, you will never forget it!

That's why there are weight limits. :P
