hey guys I'm new, i stared working for a company 2 weeks ago and they said I needed to get my DOT stuff done. They said that they would let me know when my appointment was so that I could have time to gather the nessisary paper work.

Well 2 weeks go buy and I get a call from a coworking saying that she also had an appointment the next day, I am immediately confused cause I was never told that I had an appointment and I didn't have my paperwork yet.

Anyways long story short the management gets mad at me and says that I might not be able to work until I get my attendant cert. But they had me working a week after training already.

My question is could I have lost my emt license within that one week cause I didn't have the attendant cents then? And if they have me work before I do get them am I putting license in danger?

Typically you do not lose your EMT cert because of a company's policies. You do need the DOT stuff to be able to drive a vehicle in commercial service. If they want you to drive too, then you will generally need to have the appropriate DOT medical done and appropriate endorsement for your Driver's License to drive ambulances.

Are you talking about the LA City DOT card? If so, not having basically means you cannot pick up a patient within the LA City limits. LA County EMSA (and the State of California for that matter) do not care about LA City's additional requirement as far as your EMT cert goes.

Now whichever company might have it as an internal requirement for everyone to obtain the LACity DOT (that way they don't have to worry about losing revenue from turning down calls that originate within the city limits proper or deal with the hassle of having to track which crews can and can't pickup in LA when that'll change every shift..easier on operations if everyone can go pickup everywhere the company is licensed to operate).

So your EMT Certification is safe. Your company MAY decide to let you go (but if that's their reaction to a miscommunication with a new employee than you're probably better off finding someone else to work for anyway. However I highly doubt anything worse than being told off by a supervisor will happen ("What do you mean you don't have your paperwork ready to get your DOT? We gave you 2 weeks to get it together! Get your stuff together now, and then go to the DOT office downtown ASAP!"). At the most draconian response I personally see being realistic is a written warning and maybe not being able to work until you get it.

thank you all for the replies and the help. It was a time sensitive matter and you all helped me out!

Basically nailed it on the head. Thank you man.

Leave. Just a waste of money if it is coming out of your pocket.
