As a new teacher I try to use my favorite teachers as models. I pick and choose different traits or policies that I want to include in my classroom.

What do you remember most about your favorite teacher? What made them your favorite teacher? Was it the way they taught? The way they treated you? This goes for both traditional school and EMS.

I will then print out this thread, take what I like, and become the ultimate teacher... or not

my fav teacher was always breaking his own rules out in the streets, his fav saying was 'What Works Works' when we called him on it

My favorite teacher still after all this time, is Mr. Snyder, from High School. He taught physics, chemistry...etc, etc.....advanced stuff I wasn't smart enough for really. He never made you feel like a failure, even when you struggled with concepts. He had the patience of Job.....and simply believed in you as a person. It's always been rare in my life that anyone even gave a damn......he did. I will never forget that.

one of my favorites was mr. streeter, my photography teacher in high school. he was this big, blustery dude, but when you got past that, he was truly a teddy bear. he appreciated talent and hardwork, not favoring one over the other. if you got on his bad side, he was the biggest hardass. but if you respected him, he would let you get away with murder. he is much more a friend than a teacher, he's just a great guy.

My favorite teacher in high school was Mrs Shea, She treated us as equals and as a friend. She always appreciated my work and would always make time for me and my friends after class.

Mrs Bradish. My home room teacher from 6-8th grades and my 8th grade Science Teacher.

She made it fun to be in her classroom. You could tell she loved teaching and her passion for us learning made the students in her class want to give the extra she expected.

She would dress up as "Dr Einsteinium" when we learned about the periodic table. She would come in as Gemma the Rock Star (Purple hair, legwarmers, green tights and all) when teaching about minerals from the earth. We met "Meep" the alien after the space shuttle launched. And were slightly terrified by "Vulcania. Princess of the Deep" when learning about volcanos. We had a mermaid in our classroom when learning about the oceans.

And she would spend an extra hour afterschool reteaching things to someone who just didn't get it the first time.

There wasn't a kid who went through our middle school that didn't look forward to 8th grade earth science, because they all hoped to get Mrs. Bradish. And I was lucky enough to see her every day of school for 3 years in a row.

Mrs. Evelyn Craig was my most memorable high school teacher. She was saddled with teaching English Lit to a bunch of antsy High School seniors who were so intent on looking for the light at the end of the tunnel that we almost missed it in our classroom. She had an unparalleled love for the English language that I have never seen duplicated. She actually read Brave New World aloud to us, and she did it so well that we were all entranced. She taught with enthusiasm, wit, and charm; I was in her class almost 30 years ago and would give anything to be able to tell her the impact she had on my life.

I hate to bring this back up, but I actually read and took into consideration each comment. They will have a huge impact on the upcoming year. If you have any other favorite teacher memories, or what you believe made a class fun, please post them.

Not another favorite teacher thing, but a very memorable class experience.

My high school calculus teacher always liked to keep us on the edge. Whenever we reached the halfway point for each section we learned, he would always give us a quiz, but the quizzes were never actually announced. The day of the quiz, he would always start class by asking us if we had any questions about what we would have up to that point. We learned this behavior very quickly, so when he asked us the key question, we would start bringing up random questions to stall the impending quiz. He got wise to our ways, and would, on occasion, make a big deal and get us all worked up, then ask us why we were freaking out because, that day, it would be group work. :P
