There are some programs that will take an AAS nurse with years of ICU/ED experience but they are getting fewer. Many are wanting BSNs.

Regardless of AAS or BSN you will need 4+ years of quality ICU experience and the alphabet soup of certs (TNCC, ACLS, PALS, etc)

In addition to what Chase said which is very accurate....several states also require the nurse to possess an EMT or Paramedic license as well. While this may be done through a challenge for some, it is still a requirement for some programs.

In short, there is high demand for these positions and a LOT of candidates with years of experience and education. The programs can afford to be very selective so as a candidate with only an ASN...your prospects are slim to none.

In pa with an RN license you basically have to take the paramedic assessment test offered via NREMT. I dont remember if they have to do the practicals exam.

Also before you can do that they require you must take the emt-b course if not already certifed.
