If you want to live somewhere warm, I would live in Cali over Florida any day. Fl is full of old/retired people and there is not much to do.

Personally, I like 4 seasons so I prefer massachusetts. Our summers are as hot as you would ever need, and our winters are not ridiculously cold but you still get to see some snow. It's a perfect balance.

California - Really depends on where in Cali you go. The areas are either really really nice or their not. Either way, you're paying five times more to live there than you are to most other places. Don't get me wrong, I loved my time out there and if I had the salary to support living out there I would move in a heartbeat.

Florida - yeah, full of old/retired people, but being an EMT you're thankful for that. And there are more and more people in their 30's and 40's moving down here, which means they are bringing their school-aged kids with them, which means more teaching jobs, which is what he wants to do.

Fl is also mostly rural. I personally like rural EMS more than city EMS. Although there are obviously less calls, in a rural situation the EMS personnel are a lot more dependent than in a city. In a city you are basically just transporting the patient because you are so close to the hospital. In a rural area, you have a lot more responsbility because in some cases an ambulance ride could be even an hour or longer. Does anyone agree with this?

I agree I'd probably pick California over Florida but I can't agree there's nothing to do in FL. All the Disney stuff...and there's a lot more to it than just the theme park and Epcott...the other studios and other theme parks...the other tourist attractions...and, in my opinion, the beach is always something to do. :)

The reason I would pick California over Florida is the weather. I can't stand humidity. I prefer dryness. I'm also not much into four distinct seasons. I don't mind it getting cooler in the winter, but my feeling is that if I want snow, I'll take it when I want it, meaning I'll go up to some mountain and get all the snow I want and leave it there when I'm done with that. I'm pretty sure you can do that in CA; I know you can do it in Arizona (which is where I'm originally from).

I wouldn't live in or near Los Angeles, though.

Raking, shovelling, muddy, and construction.

California?

Bleah.

I live in the middle of California and I absolutely hate it here. I'm trying to move to Minnesota. :-P

C'mon over to Minnesota! The only part of California that I'd like to live is up around Yreka, beautiful land up there. But we have that beauty everywhere!!!

Is it a town or a city or something? Because I wouldn't ever advocate moving to the middle of nowhere. For example, Yuma, AZ. I need to live near a major city or really big town. I was born in the city (Phoenix). It's in my blood. I need to have a choice of malls, multiple Best Buys and Circuit Cities, at least 30 restaurants in every direction around me within a five mile radius.

That's why I'd really like to move back to Phoenix one day...Because I want all that I just said, but I'd also like to be able to drive for about an hour straight out of town and be in the middle of nowhere. I'd like to go there in the middle of the night and have an unobstructed starry sky view with no interference from artificial lighting. I'd like to actually be able to be alone when I want to be alone.

Florida is a good state to live in if you want to be rid of the seasons and have nice warm weather all year round. And it's swarming with medical jobs. Try to stay in the mid to northern part of the state though. Real Estate is getting ridiculous down here (houses prices are blown up 72% right now) and pretty much every apt complex from the keys to Ft Myers has been turned into a condo so it's almost impossible to rent anymore unless you want to pay 1500 a month for a 2/1 house built in the 50's.

Fl still has really cheap housing up in the northern parts. A house in Fl that cost 200-300K will cost 500-600K over here in Massachusetts or in some parts of Cali.

If the prices are recently blowing up, it's just because they are finally matching the "norms". Fl used to be notorious for low real estate prices.
