Quick question. If you are dispatched to an Assist Patient call and the narrative is PT unable to get out of bed//req lift assist. Can a trained, but uncertified NYS emt, assist the patient after it is determined that patient is uninjured and is suffering from no other medical condition. The patient is seen by a later arriving certified EMT and is signed off by that EMT.

This is a large volunteer company with numerous sub stations and the first arriving is an engine with no EMT.

Thanks

question 1) what exactly is a trained, but certified EMT? As in someone who took the class but failed the final exam? Or are you talking about someone who completed the course, passed the exam, but their agency is only functioning at the FR level, so they aren't credentialed as an EMT in their job description?

Follow up to question 1) you're either an EMT or your not, there really isn't any wiggle room there.

Question 2) is the later arriving EMT willing to testify in court that what the uncertified person did was 100% accurate and correct? And if the uncertified person misses something, and causes further harm by moving the patient, does that fall on the EMT?

Question 3) what does your agency say a non-certified responder is permitted to do in regards to patient care?

Question 4) why is a non-medically certified responder responding to a medical emergency? So they can stand around and tell the patient "don't worry, the trained responders are on their way."?

And yes someone (EMT, FR or Medic) can assist a patient. "Help, I have fallen and can't get up" or I am not getting O2 anymore, so you assist them by moving the chair off their tubing.
Otherwise they call for help because they fell out of bed and you leave them on the floor because they don't want to go to the hospital?
