I think it's pretty nifty for our rural county. For one some response times are pretty extended for a medic. Also very frequently we just plain run out of medics and EMT's. Sometimes the call demand is too high for us and off duty first response can sometimes make a difference.
That is pretty elaborate (which is good). Here if I show up on a call in my county I can do all my medic things with all the medic things I don't have. But I could and the medical director is fine with that. Your name goes into the responding crew's report as a secondary to provider. If I want to hop in help, that is also fine.
