"MAST meets some of the most rigorous response time standards in the country and has the second-best cardiac save rate, behind only Seattle, according to a 2006 study."

So why in the heck is Fire trying to take over? Not much room for improvement. Honestly the city should take money from the over inflated fire budget and give it to MAST to continue on, as they seem to already be doing a great job. Fire should continue assisting as first responders and let the Medical Professionals handle medicine.

While there are some very dedicated fire medics sadly there are many that do not want to do EMS but are forced into it to keep a job. And there are many in EMS that do not want to do fire yet are forced into to get a check. These two very different fields really need to remain specialized.

Nooooo.

MAST has a special place in my heart, that is where I did my MICP internship. If I didn't hate KCMO with a passion (it's too darn hot and humid!) I would work there without question. I'm not a huge fan of fire based EMS anyway. They would loose a lot of good MICPs who can't/won't be FFs and they will loose FFs who can't/won't be MICPs. They will end up with a lot of brand new medics without a lot of experience, corresponding in a drop in the quality of service.

Plus there is no accredited MICP school in KCMO (not sure about KCK) so where would they send all these FFs to be educated?

Amazing they are trying this stint. KC can't even handle their own EMS training as Blue Springs (Central Jackson Fire District) does most of their EMS education.

I have to admit that Central Jackson Fire has one of the few if not best Fire EMS based services. Unique that they provide the education for KC and is accredited as most of their officers are really educated (grad or above) and the only Fire Based CCEMT/P program allowed. I believe they are associate Loyola University?

Metro Ambulance Service Trust should remain!

OK, MAST has its issues, but it is a good service.

KCFD has a horrible reputation for unprofessional behavior and repeated scandals.

Is this another instance of inefficient fire services trying to justify their existance by taking services from other organisations.

The core business of a Fire Department is Fire Surpression.

The core business of ambulance services is pre hospital medical care.

End of story.
