For the United States Army. 68w combat medic. not really an interview but more of a "what are you recruiting for". not going to go AD but reserve instead for the first stent and if i like it maybe resign as ad and make something out of it. any active combat medics on here? i heard a rumor from a fellow recruiter and he said e-4 out of basic and i will start AIT 6-7 weeks ahead of everyone else because of my nremt. any truth to this? also will sign for 6 years as a reservist +2 inactive. dunno, with all the emts in ca and me living in a pretty rural area (1 county provider and only a couple within reasonable driving distance) i am at a loss and this seems one way for me to do something even remotely medical related with my card. right now all its doing is collecting dust...

thats what i heard from a medic that i worked with that is doing the same route.. he told me about it and said he did alot of research before he went into talking to them. i would suggest u search forums with people that have gone through it. im sure there are some in here that can answere. one thing he stressed and everyone that has gone into military that i know is to get EVERYTHING in writting and make sure u get the job u want.

I don't believe you would come out of bootcamp as an E4, you need 6months to 1 year of experience in your job before you can even consider to be an E4. Also you need to go through a board to get your E4.

As for Kern County, check with Hall Ambulance, the last time I check, they were hiring a bunch of newly EMT's and seems like they were understaff or something since I got the job but declined it the next day.

check on craigslist as well for jobs in your city as well. As for joining the military, get everything in writing and get copys of all your orders. Also get a sign in bonus!! don't sign up for 6 years without any bonus, thats a lost cause for you. if there's a position for you, they'll probably grant you 20k with a bonus if your lucky. if not, its up to you. but make sure to get everything in writing and copy's of every orders and anything they promise you.

Good luck and have fun! :) and I think the 68W school is longer than 6-7 weeks. Its around 30-40 weeks long the last time I talked to the recruiter.

There are a few of the us on here.... I'm currently 68w with the NG, and yes, you can become e-4 at signing your contract, (pay and benefits wise), the program you are looking for is the ACASP (Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program). If you enlist with a current NREMT card (B/I/P), and you have more than one year left before expiration when you get to Ft. Sam Houston, you "fast track" which cuts the time you spend in the medic program almost in half. Now, it doesn't cut out the processing or the down time that you spend waiting for a class to open, but once you've made it to a training company, you'll be with that company for a week or two, then jump ahead to a training company that is starting the limited clinical practice phase. Got any more questions? Feel free to pm me, as I did ACASP...

when you join the national guard what are the drill weekends like? im assuming the USAR is close to the same. cool thanks for the information tho, i talk to a recruiter tomorrow morning. whats 68w school like? pretty fast paced? my rremt card exp 03/13. now if i enlist asap and somehow during ait it becomes less than one year till expiration what happens? do i still have to take the entire course or since i will be out before it expires will i just be able to re cert?

thanks again, its really a big help to be able to ask some one that is currently serving

if im not mistaken the e-4 board is if you want cpl instead of specialist. cpl is considered a leadership position or some crap like that. no i would come out as e-4 comfirmed by guy below me and also active duty 68w that i spoke with today.

hall is hiring but i cant re apply till january because of some stupid stongly agree strongly disagree questionaire that i had no idea what to do haha.

i am not seeing anything anywhere that says anything about signing bonus for 68w. really it sounds like the military isnt hurting enough for bonuses :(

no i will skip 6 weeks by having my nremt card. the actual course is 16 weeks. 40 weeks is crazy man! not even medic school is that long. haha
