About done with emt class, and ideally I'd like to work during the summer as an emt then go back to school in the fall for medic or whatever classes I may need to take. I realize it may be harder to get hired being olny 19.

Where are you from? It's more difficult to get hired in some areas over others.

You also may have difficulty, as many EMS companies won't hire employees under the age of 21 due to insurance reasons

It depends. But tell an agency you are only around for 3 months and you will not be invited to the party, guaranteed.

Depends on your area and the companies. Some areas are in a need for EMTs and others aren't.

Some companies hire under 21 and others don't.

Michigan, and I'd still go to school while working unless it became an issue.

Or I could go through the fire academy in the summer then straight to medic after that.

If you can swing it financially and your area doesn't require EMT experience prior to medic school, I absolutely recommend that route. You'll also be that much closer to not worrying about being old enough to get hired, with much more earning potential. :)
