Interview Question: If EMS was not around, What would you be?

Id probably be involved in priovate security.

I've actually heard that commercial airline pilots make dirt. Less than EMTs in some states! There have been several articles on the subject

Two possible answer tracks

1. What would you be as in "turned out to be", or
2. What else interests you?

For me:
1. Probably working "a job" around L.A., factory or something.
2. Environmental protection specialist of some sort. I'd write if I had the talent, and I teach some now.

And if we get to choose anything, there's a ton of things I'd be. Neuroradiologist, dermatologist, professional hockey player, professional drummer, professional lottery winner

TWo ways that question goes.

Either 1. "What would you be if you hadn't taken up EMS?"
or 2. "What else would you rather be doing if not EMS".

As for me,

1. Probably working a job somewhere near L.A., and
2. Writing (if I had the talent), environmental protection specialist of some sort. I enjoy teaching adults, but only outside a school district.

Game warden, traffic cop, or maybe a suit and tie type job.

Everything.... or nothing. I have a Poli Sci degree, so I'm in the same boat.

Political Science to EMS. Who woulda thought?;)

I believe most people end up in a field different from what they studied in school, although maybe that was just a statistic I read about Psychology only:rofl:

then I proceeded to get what's essentially a psych degree:ph34r:

Yeah, I got mine in Economics. Every job interview for fire/EMS I'd get a funny look and a "So tell me about your degree?"

A nurse ;)

However, EMS is what lead me down this path....

So if I had to pick another career, firefighter or something awesome like a homocide detective or on the SWAT team.

=]

I have been thinking about this more; medically related I think I would be an obstetrician and gynaecologist, non-medically I would be a teacher.

I work as a part time Engineer tech, and I must say mapping the city is a nice thing. Working by yourself. No screaming, just waltzing down the road minding your own business can be nice.

So, if there was no EMS and no EMTS or Paramedics....... What would you be?

I'd probably still be a software engineer; perhaps I would have made it onto a mapping team (gmaps comes to mind).
