I just got my Illinois license.. Well.. then I moved to the boarder of Iowa and Illinois with my fiance. I applied for a job with one of the ambulance services up here... but they transfer on the Illinois and Iowa sides. They didn't hire me because they said they would prefer if i got my basic national license... Would it be in my best interest to do this? I haven't even had my Illinois Basic license for a year yet.

If you're working out of Illinois, you should not need the Iowa credential. That said, just take the NREMT exam and reciprocate. It's not that difficult.

By the way, there is no "national license". The states issue their own credentials to allow you to practice.

mebbe its possible to get reciprocity to Iowa, since you have an IL license. check the dept of public health website !
