Not EMS related, this is personal. Friday morning I got up to get ready for work....some of ya may recall I work at a doctor's office. I'm sitting at my table doing what I normally do in the morning, having a coffee, chilling....all of a sudden I start feeling kind of funny. Not bad, just strange. Tingling and numbness in my face, all extremities. Very pronounced in my right arm.....not the left. So I'm not too concerned yet. I go to work. It gets worse. I asked one of the nurses about it, she checks my BP. 170/110 with no prior Hx. Doc gives me a benicar and makes me go home, and tells me he wants to do fasting labs Monday, with instructions to check BP BID. Right now my BP is running 130/90 range with the Benicar. I still have all above symptoms, with intermittent CP. No more stress than usual....nothing new going on. Resting heart rate is tachy and has been since Friday morning. 110-130. How concerned should I be? Doc doesn't seem overly concerned. They did an EKG.....tachy, no T-wave elevation....in fact T-waves were almost flat. Sorry to throw this out there and talk shop....

Hey Maria, this same thing happened to me when I was 19. Turned out to be stress/anxiety disorder. I actually took a very low dose of Toprol and after 4 years was able to wien myself off of it. When it started I had the tingling, high BP, and flashing lights in my eyes from time to time. My resting HR was 140. I'm fine now, my HR will still spike occasionally but I can usually talk myself out of it. I also get occasional PVCs but I've been to several cardiologists and they all say I'm fine (did several halter monitors and the whole nine yards).

So relax, check up on everything, especially your thyroid, but don't freak yourself out over it. I did and it only made it worse. Good luck hon and keep us updated!

Were said reactions before or after taking the B-blockers?

BP back up to 160/110 this evening with continued above-mentioned symptoms. At least I am having some lab work done tomorrow, maybe that will turn something up. Keep ya posted.

Knowing what I know about you and your situation, I'd guess that this most likely is in relation to stress and anxiety. I'd be inclined to get it checked out at a doctors office, but it looks as though you're going to be doing that tomorrow.

Feel better and keep us posted!

I wasn't taking any meds when it happened, the toprol was to treat the problem, worked well too. I was 19 and think it had something to do with taking college full time, working full time, barely eating and drinking 3 pots of coffee a day.

Hang in there Maria!!

Most of the labs are back....they are taking a hard look at renal function.....serum creatinine levels are way off. Keep ya posted. Good news is BP is now controlled by meds. One down, one to go.
