I belong to a private EMS company that relies entirely on the community. I have a few ideas for promotion and was curious if you guys could offer any advice or tips.

- Local fliers of course. Our name, number, and catchy slogan

- Brief advertisement to air on our local news channel. I'll have to look into how much this would cost to produce and buy airtime. Am I able to call the station and inquire about airtime cost?

- Fliers to be put in local businesses

- Radio advertisement. I assume AM is much cheaper than FM

- T-shirts given out to the public. People love free shirts it seems

We don't advertise but then again we are the only IFT and 911 ambulance provider in the county except for one little tiny pocket.

We do a lot of community events, special events, have car seat programs, bike rodeos, things like that. Our reputation speaks for itself.

Same as NVRob. My company doesn't advertise. We do a lot of special events (just broke the $1 million mark for events for the 2013 year) and we are also the only 911 provider in the county (apart from maybe 5 fire departments. We also do IFTs.

The only advertising we do have is our company name on the side of the ambulances.

Just realized I put fliers twice- duh. I believe I meant to say fliers to be passed out and poster-type advertisements for businesses.

We don't advertise my service is a volunteer department of our town government.

Ah, things are much different in your neck of the woods. We are 911 after 11pm, and we are completely surrounded by fire departments.

In the Seventies, we wold arrive early for IFT's and roam about handing out freebies with company logo. Like ashtrays.

My 3rd service does a lot of PR events: appearances/stand bys at events like races and carnivals, school demos, CPR classes, give out flu shots, stuff like that. They don't hand out shirts or fliers or anything. They're just very visible to the public and provide great service. The ambulances stand out pretty well, too ;)

A certain green company around here likes to hand out magnets that are often seen attached to urinals... Make for great targets  Sorry sh, just find it quite comical ;) :P

Ha that's freaking awesome!

I know we give out pens, cookies, note pads etc to the facilities. We also have a few billboards around and the occasional TV commercial.

Your(and my) ambulances are giant ads anyways, but I know they were sending BLS units to con homes and hospitals for awhile with PR materials and they have a massive PR department nationally.

I've yet to ever see an add in the newspaper, on TV, or a billboard. Mostly we give out free stuff to the hospitals with the company name on it. Our company doesn't really need to be advertised lol

We have those EMS posters above around the city. Bus stop billboards and whatnot. Nothing huge though...

My favorite thing about the above poster with the medic (our most recent one) is he is dual wielding BLS tech bags which we don't even carry on the ALS rigs...

We have a marketing team that will go to facilities and give a presentation on why we are a superior ambulance provider. They give out free crap (pens, calendars, etc) everywhere, and field crews have some to give out too.

We make up our stretcher with a pretty plaid company blanket. Field staff are kept to a strict uniform and grooming standard so other companies will notice that we look more professional (do we?).

We used to park outside of a hospital in an effort to get the ED staff to start calling us for discharges (fail).

Lots and lots of community events too, standbys, CPR classes, school visits, etc.

You guys are giving me some good ideas!

We have a billboard up by a major railroad which is great. I like the idea of pens or notepads, although I'm sure that endeavor can get expensive quick.

NYMedic, I can safely say my company is the exact opposite of the FDNY haha.

At my main job we are the only ambulance service in the province(government run/funded). We do everything. We do psa and we have a media relations person on the payroll. Every week there are stories on the news or in the paper about a good call/outcome. (Arrest safe, delivery, etc)

My volly gig is fire/ems. They do all the 911 plus als intercept the surrounding towns. They do most of the ift. With only 1 hospital and the second call ift service being 40 min away we get the first call.

Here's the book answer.
Learned this first day of Basic.
You ambulance is a giant billboard.

Mind-boggling, isn't it? That book really does cover it all.

Except... You know... Good, appropriate medical care...
