Good morning,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I searched throughout the forums and couldn't seem to find an answer.

I went through the application process for a large company in Santa Clarita Valley, CA (AMR) this past month, written test passed/skills test passed/ interview seemed to go very well. The interview was last Wednesday, and I have not heard back.

When is it appropriate to call and inquire, or what would my next steps be? I'm not new to EMS, but new to the California job field and did not want to overstep, though I am extremely interested in this position.

Thank you for your time and help.

A lot of places just don't call back it's pretty depressing just waiting. I don't think a phone call hurts, I would script what I wanted to say before the call and be as tactful as possible.

Once you get past the gate keeper, and talk to a hiring person, a great phone ice breaker is: "Hi there! I just wanted to call and thank you again for taking the time to speak with me about the EMT position last week. I was curious if I could provide any further material or info to help you out with making a decision? No? That's fine. Can you give me an idea as to when I can expect to hear back from someone?"

Professional and polite is the key. Always professional and polite.

This is unlike sex panther. 100% of the time, it's worked every time.

Call back until you speak to someone. If you got a card from an interviewer, give them a call. Otherwise ask to speak to someone in HR. It is not unreasonable to ask for a status update and asking if you can provide any additional information shows that you are interested in the position.
