Greetings from Texas

Hi all, I joined a few weeks ago but never got around to posting.
I am a retired Fire Captain and Medic. I currently teach Combat
Medics at Fort Sam Houston. I am regaining my NREMT-P after
not needing it for a long time. (Fire doggy stuff took up most of
my time. Inspections, hazmat team and technical rescue) Stupid
me, now I am in class with people less than half my age. Oh well
damn good refresher and it is truly easier the second time around.

I was having a talk with an older guy about why EMS needs "old folks".

You're the one that reminds me not to use the PA when that sudden urge arises.
You're the one that reminds me to slow down when I respond RLS to the granny-stackers at 2 AM.
You're the one that gives me that look when I insist on carrying all three of our radios when we run in for a quick break.

Damn you, you're experience, and common sense.

Thanks for the welcome. I will stick my head in from time to time. Yes I am considered old for the trade. My retirement came after 23 years on the department. So what do I do? Go back to school, become an instructor, and start looking for a department to volunteer on. I will quit when they pry my axe and defibrillator from my cold dead fingers. Hell, I'm only 46 so I got a couple calls left in me.
