I tried searching the web, no real luck.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge about AED grants.

My interest is getting one in my church.

Is their a grnat for training as well ?

Does the 'group' of people trained have to work under a medical director ?

What are the qualifications for the medical director ?
 
You do realize you can get an AED for $1500 bucks or so, right?

And a simple CPR class will cover AED use which anyone can use without training, no medical direction needed.

I am considering this for a religeous group. If a grant were available for them, why could'nt they apply for it ?

If not, then I would consider suggesting a fund raiser.

I want to do my homework and write out a proposal, get some other parishoners interested, before I approach my priest, who would in turn approach the bishop about it.

If anyone does know if their are grants available, it would be appreciated.
 
Sure thing, I understand. I just thought of all the time spent writing a grant versus what your time is worth per hour. Put everything in perspective with cost analysis and anyone will readily agree.

The effort spent does not outweigh a simple request one service and then having the funds the following service. I say work smarter, not harder and in this case, one car wash or bake sale would cover the expense and would be a whole lot less stressful than seeking grants, meeting their requirements, etc.

Why look for a handout because it is for a religious group? Just raise the funds. Now 10-15 years ago when AEDs were 5k-15K and not on every street corner, that is a different story.

But when the cost is minimal and training is very affordable...why go through the government bureaucracy red tape hassle?

- Check state/federal web sites for any potential grant oportunities. It's been a few years since the last rural grant so it should be time again soon. Blue Cross/Blue Shield is another thought.

-Grants generally require training and may or may not include it...that's up to the grant writer / grantor as to who provides what.

-Medical direction comes with the purchase of an AED but to keep it, make sure you are registered and don't let training faulter. Most programs fail due to lack of interest and up-keep. Many AED manufacturers will have service contracts available which, could include both up-keep and training. Not cheap but neither is the battery, patches and training. Well worth the cost IMHO.

I am not looking for a handout.

If their were some mechanism to be allocated monies for it, why should my parrish not be able to apply, as any other group may ?

And the church I attend is a landmarked historical building, it gets historical visitors of all faiths all the time. Furthermore, it is 1/2 block from NYC's Central Park, some passerby on the street could collapse and be helped as well.
 
I spent months looking for a grant back in 2006. I then gave up and made a school announcement saying that we were looking for an AED. A week later a company donated an AED (Lifepak 500). Unfortunately the battery was dead, and it cost about $300.

I spent another two months looking for a grant, calling local businesses, etc. Finally we just manned up and bought one.

I run about 10 fundraisers a year for our school, and found that fundraisers are far easier than grants.

I highly suggest selling your church on the need for an AED, and then collecting donations. AEDs really do save lives, and there are lots of great presentations out there that help you sell your case.
