A good FTO has gone a long way toward changing my attitude.

So, what made them a good FTO?

Constructive criticism, actual critiques with justification, and he lets me make decisions instead of jumping in. He's also a firm believer in feedback and explanations. Far better than my last one.

Yep, definitely a better FTO. Lets me problem-solve but isn't totally disinterested. Caught a few mistakes and corrected them painlessly and effectively.

So, what flavor of Kool-Aid did you drink hahaha

J/K, glad to see things are working out better for you. It's amazing how a change in partner/FTO can turn a miserable shift into a fun one.

I remember my time at CCEMS. My 2nd FTO (you know the story) took some leave, and I was working with another medic for a few weeks. We got along great. Management was asking him on the down-lo how I was, and he said that I was fine, that he didn't see any problems. It seemed that I got along much better with people that came from other regions (he was from San Diego) than I did with the indigenous population.

Just get cleared by the FTO, and then you get your own bus where you can run calls the way you see fit.

It was yellow with green tossed in, maybe a hint of maroon and white.

+1 for a good day.

Sell out to the man. Compromising your standards. Lowering... Oh never mind you said they helped you improve.

Yes a good FTO can be a great benefit.

I've never said anything different. That being said, my last FTO was not educated to the standards set out, or did not know how to teach.

in most agency's I have been with FTO only pays around an extra $1.00 an hour, there is also no additional education required for the position. So I can see how there would be a mixed bag of quality FTO's. It would however appear by that fact and the position, that many FTO's are at least motivated and have "some experience"
