Yes, be nice to the Torrence FD, and do what they say and you will be fine. If they tell you to jump, you say how high?

Isn't Torrence 911 the contract where the ambulance has to post until the fire department arrives?

they recently changed that policy a month or two ago, a firend on this forum recently told me that over PM

if i cant get a job at CARE i might have to call up the HR lady and ask her if i can jump on, she kinda screwed me over last time, maybe if i bring her baby food she will be nice to me

I heard this too, that in TORRANCE, even the Gerber ALS units had to post outside the area and wait for FD medics.

I haven't heard the best things about them. I've had everything from ride-alongs to EMTs to Paramedics tell me that their experience with Gerber has been less than pleasant.

I've had two EMT students that told me that Gerber never returned their calls for their required ride alongs. I've had another EMT student tell me that he stayed persistent and called back every couple days to try and get a response (because it was his local 911 ambulance company and our school regularly sends students to them), and finally they called back and told him "we'll schedule your ride-along, but don't expect to get hired from us because frankly we're annoyed with your impatience". This was 2 weeks after his original message was left, and the EMT program he's in is an 8 week program.

EMTs that work for them have told me that they get no respect from Torrance FD, and working with them can be stressful. I've had little experience with Torrance FD, but I've heard that both the Torrance FD and PD are exceptional organizations. This makes me feel like whatever bad blood is settling between Torrance and Gerber was probably caused from the Gerber side of things.

I know one paramedic that works for them, and he's LITERALLY depressed. He constantly groans about how much he hates working for Gerber, but how he's stuck. Part of that is because the local fire departments are all on a hiring freeze though, and he's been trying to get on for almost 2 years now.

I heard the owner's a pretty nice guy though.
