Fmr. paramedic among 43 arrested in undercover child sex solicitation sting

Wow. That's just sickening.

Yep, pretty big news down here. It's sad.

why aren't the names and occupations and employers of the other 42 listed? Is the author implying that because one person in a field is a pervet, all paramedics are child predators? He was a great medic with a spotless record, i don't think anyone saw this coming.

Sickening? yes. newsworthy? no.

A different article I read after having the same reaction as you highlighted a Coast Guard JAG officer who was arrested in the sting. Every large group - regardless of their common bond - is going to have its share of miscreants. News organizations will go with the one that will provide the most sensationalized coverage possible; it doesn't matter whether it's relevant to the accusations.

It's also newsworthy because paramedics are held to higher ethical standards then say a garbage truck driver. Paramedics, firefighters, police officers… We teach our children to go to these people in the event of an emergency. we tell our kids that they can be trusted and that the firemen would never hurt them. All of these people are expected to be trustworthy beyond a shadow of a doubt. When a paramedic or police officer is accused of using a computer to lure a child into a meeting for sex… That is a sickening, and unfortunately, newsworthy event.
