Does anyone have a list of contents that are normally carried on EMS bikes?

EMS has Bikes???

Ya I know some places use bikes but we haven't with the community we have. If I would be on a bike I would want the main esentials of course balanced out on both sides. :D

MY squad has the bikes... normal load out is 2 partners on seperate bikes sharing gear

Between 2 bikes:
2 top bags: O2 + supplies, Portable battery-powered suction
4 side bags: AED, Trauma / bandaging, Airway / o2, Other stuff: B/P; Scopes; Glucose; etc...

I'm not 100% sure, but will probably be finding and re-stocking the bags this evening at the squad, as I've got to ride them next weekend.

If I were doing the bike EMS.. We'd need two. NO! THREE! Bikes.. A sawzall.. A welder.. Sheets of 1/8" Steel, Some steel tubing, an axel, a boat battery, a EQ2B, a large bubble light, 16 Sq. feet of plexi-glass..

Give me an hour..

Then I'll need an electric lawn mower; and some clothesline rope..

Then I'd need a cot.. a H cylinder.. and a lawn tractor seat.

And give me another hour..

The whacker bike would be too heavy to peddle. It would need the motor from the lawnmower for it's engine. Push mower...

My new John Deere rider is totaled. After it rolled over my lower half, it continued down to the drive way.

the services that i know that use bikes stock each one to be seperate. so both have a fairly standard loadout, including aed's and real small o2 tanks, airway stuff, trauma stuff.....

basically everything you'd normall have, just less of it. i.e. they might only carry 1/2 dozen 4x4's. they can restock whatever they use when the truck shows up to transport the pt(exactly what they do for an onscene treat and release, you got me)

emt's on bikes is a great idea, much like pd on bikes. they can move through crowd quicker(fourth of july type stuff) and in the end save money. nervouse parents who call an ambulance for a skinned knee arent a problem anymore. you could respond both a bike team and an ambulance to be prudent, and the bike team could clear the rig when they get there and see its nothing

boston ems was one of the first services to do it and its worked out great

umm... are you sure that the lawn motor engine would push that monster? it seems a little heavy for that...

Light weight steel..

We can get that thing up to at least 30..

I would love to be a bike medic.
I dont know why this is so appealing.

Because it is a heck of a lot of fun, great exercise, and you get to do 35 MPH on downhills! (Think Lance. B) )

Did I mention it's FUN!

Check with the experts at www.ipmba.org (International Police Mountain Bike Association official web site). They have a section for EMS there. They offer courses for both LEOs and EMTs/Paramedics.

Best of luck,

Guri

I can tell you what I take on my mountain bike... but it isn't an EMS bike ;)

If you added a cape to the spandex, you'd be a superhero.

From the central Illinois perspective...
