Favorite or Best Moment

I like calls where the pt is hypoglycemic and I get to give them d50. I think that's one of the coolest things ever.

He's a total hardass and is never really very personable. We were talking and he looked at me and nodded and said,
"Medic... You'll do good there."

I know this feeling. Our clinical coordinator stopped by the fire station I was doing clinical rides at on my last ride to check up on me. The 2 medics I was riding with were constantly on my *** about skills, knowledge etc. It was rough but I learned a ton from them. Our coordinator is ex-Marine and super hardcore. Right before he left he pulled me aside and said he was concerned that I wouldnt get it together in time to finish, but my reviews were great and he was proud of how well I did. That meant the world to this 20 year old EMT at the time.

Lots of favorite moments from being on the ground on the Miss. Coast after a certain hurricane to riding out on Coast Guard boats to assist injured boaters. There was also the time I ignored the protocols to treat a cardiac arrest and he immediately regained a pulse and sat up on the stretcher.

Probably when we were doing IFT and our driver got lost so our patient handed me his phone and said "Here, give her this", shortly before she slammed on the brakes throwing me into the cabinets...

or when this sweet 85 yo lady told us we were angels of life, it's a toss up :P

The best moment for me so far, is running a drug overdose protocol and being able to start the line and run 0.4mg of Narcan through the line and watch this pt come from almost not breathing to fully being awake and talking to us. I am sure I will have many more great moments:D

nice!

Best moment - my first delivery. Awesome, just can't get over what God starts as two cells turns out to be this beautiful baby. Emergency/field medicine was the life for me. I would do it for free (wait, I am), but would be nice to do it for a living.

Inspired!

Got me thinking you did, so I blogged on it. Here's my favorite and Closest Call!

EEEWWWWWW. Delivered one kid, never want to do it again.

When I have been asked, I always answer that I have delivered 2. On the first, I was the pitcher and on the second, I was the catcher. I am done with delivering babies now, if I have any say in it.

Fortunately, most are uncomplicated deliveries, so there really isn't that much to them. That doesn't mean I am looking forward to a "next time", just know it isn't something to be that scared/nervous/apprehensive about.

"I love the feeling that comes from sitting out on the back bumper of the truck and watching the world go by. "

Yeah, I love those days as well.

This is nice too. As soon as the weather cools a little we'll stash some folding camp chairs in the unit and hang out outside the unit when posted.
