My wife found this site while surfing the other day. I do not know how up-to-date they are but I thought I would pass it on anyway. This is a site that keeps track of registered sex offenders. We have 7 in our area and I only knew of one. It also gives you the option of being e-mailed whenever an offender moves into your neighborhood. Interesting site to say the least.

As far as I know, they're as up-to-date as they can be by law.

There's a violent sex offender living across the street from my fiance - he viciously attacked a woman about my age - dragged her off into the bushes.. now when I go over there my fiance knows I'm coming and he walks me out to my car when I leave. In a way it's a false sense of safety knowing that he's there, but in another way it makes me try to be safer than I normally would. I'm usually very aware and cautious though.

Most local Sheriff's Departments and City Police Departments have links on their websites regarding registered sex offenders. It is nice to keep up to date with where the scrotes are.

Grrrrrrrrrr

Unfortunately, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Vermont do not currently provide addresses for registered sex offenders. Consequently, we are unable to provide adequate or meaningful information about sex offenders located in these states. We will add functionality that will allow searches by name and city in the future.

It's funny I was looking this info up last night. I actually have one of these winners in my family and he's not on any of the lists...It's required by law to be registered right?

You better believe it...my understanding of Megan's law requires everyone convicted of a sex offense to register...the time limit various from state to state...I know in SC you have 3 days to register your new addy with the local sheriff, otherwise you are in big trouble with the state...and they will send the state law enforcement division(SLED, ie the no highway patrol state cops) after you with a big warrant, and you go back to jail for a nice little while!

For all you people in SC here is the link to SLED's Sex Offense Registry:www.sled.sc.gov/sor/

Megan's law is only Level 3 sex offenders (the worst of the worst)... it can be made stricter by each of the states, but I know NY only does Level 3's.

Also, registration as a sex offender is not automatic. It must be part of their Judgement and Sentence from the Court.

Whats bad is where Im moving there is two convicted rapists level 3 within a 5 mile radius. At least I'll know to keep the baseball bat in the truck with me at all times.

Actually I hate to disagree...

sex offenders no longer register themselves, when they are sentenced to prison they forego a process of R and E which is evaluation, that is where tests are run, records made and locations of sentences passed... if the Incarcerated inmate is in for sex offender, they ARE AUTOMATICALLY registered by the department of corrections and seperated from general population that goes for rapists and molesters... in SC the sex offenders are kept at Broad river road, in the congaree dorm both A and B wing, and the VIOLENT offenders kept just oposite... because so many sex offenders refused to register the states started to as an automatic court order....

I think it should be automatic registration and they are fitted with a PERMANENT gps tracking device and if they go within 100 ft of a place they arent supposed to be around (IE schools and certain facilities) then the SO comes in and arrests them, books em and send em back to prison for another year. They are given ONE chance and ONE chance only to rehabilitate themselves and if they screw up it is by their own doing and no one elses.

That was my point...it requires a court order to register them as a sex offender. If the court doesn't order it, they don't have to register. The actual procedures and requirements vary from state to state, and sometimes from judicial district to judicial district.

I just used the zip code check & found 4 within a 6 mile radius of where I live. GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..... Thanks for putting this info up.

I have one living right next door to me!

Okay your quoting what I say but only that part..so let me clarify

Its AUTOMATIC period no ifs ands or butts, by law it IS required sex offenders register now.. especially after the walmart incident... this being said if a Judge does not appoint a court order then the judge is in violation and can recieve sentencing... They are now making it to where it isnt needed for a court order it is an automatic process when they arrive at R and E... through evaluation they overlook why they were sentenced and thats when its placed in the computer immediately, the judges are being slowly pushed out of the process of sex offender registry.. now its Automatic, if your a rapist your listed, you dont list it, the state does

But even if you are registered in the state computer database you still have to notify the local S.O. if you are moving into the area. And Many DONT, which is the downfall- so sex offenders need to be fitted with a permanent gps tracking device so the states knows where they are at all times. And the local SO is notified if the gps tracking device has remained in a city for more than 72 hours. And an alarm goes off if the offender is within 300 ft of a school zone or daycare facility. Might also want to ban the creeps from parks where children are known to play, and they shouldnt be allowed to live within 1 mile radius of a residence with children. Makes it hard on the offender to really do anything which is the point, make them pay for their crimes for the rest of their life.

exactly...

see this is the thing

when jobs do background checks they typically only do state.. for example in SC... they contact sled sled checks their files for sc.. what does this mean you may ask? well say the individual killed someone or raped someone in TN, sled only has SC records so if the individual is clean there, then the prior conviction doesnt show up... that why someone was raped at walmart, they did a state check not a nationwide...

each state has their own law enforcement division and they tend to only run the state back ground checks when they need to run the individual completely...this includes fingerprints sled may not have their fingerprints because the crime was in another state, and while this may piss some of you orr, and the others go "bull:censored::censored::censored::censored:" I hate to tell you but its true...
