My service just put on an extrication class for the local fire depts. Ü We got to destroy 10 or 12 cars. Yea!!!!! I'll try to get some pics on here later.

We were using TNT cutters, spreaders and rams. I got to use the cutters mostly. Ü The tool weighs like 55-60 lbs and has around 250,000 pounds of force. They will cut right thru strutural frame steel! :P

Fun!!!

I was fortunate enough to get to do an extrication day in my EMT class. The purpose was really to teach us how to support pts during extrication, but of course we got to play with the toys.

Using the cutters you described:

Another highlight of the day was when one of the FFers hosting did a demonstration of the dangers of airbags. We stood back as he put an isolated, undeployed airbag under a fire helmet and using a battery, deployed it. That was great and all, except the helmet launched and tore into the insulation on the ceiling of the bay.

I have used TNT and really like them. We use Holmatro comparable in weight. But you need to use the old Hurst tools we had when I first started. The spreader weighed in at around 75 to 80 pounds. Love to do extrication classes. Great stress reducer.

do ye always smash the front window? or were you stressed?

here it gets cut alond the bottom and gets lifed out of the way.

Sounds like fun!

OOOHHH!!!! I want to put on some turnouts and cut up some cars!!! ** That would be fun! :P

They did that to one of the cars, but when someone handed me an axe and said "Hey... go smash that windshield in" I was more than eager. :)

looks like ya had fun...i wanna destroy 10+ cars lol

Here we use either a structural fire axe to make a hole in a bottom corner, cut around the two sides and top with a sawz-all, and then smash the botton of the windshield with the axe. THen we simply fold it forward onto the hood. Or do the same thing with a Glass-Master.B) (Which I prefer!) On the other windows we just punch them out with a spring loaded punch. I forgot to do that on one during class and the rear window EXPLODED out and into me. Good thing I was wearing propper PPE.;)
