Yes. It's actually not EMT, It's "Volunteer Fire Department" with the state of Florida seal. It's my badge from Orlando. Unfortunately I don't do it anymore since I'm no longer in Orlando, but I still carry it around for some reason :P

We wear brown pants and a white shirt that has "____ Ambulance Service" on the back, no badge, and patches on both shoulders as well as the front. We joke that it makes us look like a bowling league! Surely not any where close to the Sheriffs Officers. They wear all green, like a pine tree! ;)

Apparently I get mistaken for a mall cop.

Well, my old company's uniform looked almost exactly like the uniform for Target security.

The decline of EMS's professional appearance over the past decade has now placed them at a level of baggage handlers.

A few months ago while I was waiting to catch a flight home from LAX I looked out the window and watched as they loaded baggage onto the plane. I suddenly realized the baggage handlers looked exactly like some of the EMS medics that I ride with from time to time.

Same cheap navy t-shirt with logo on the back, navy shorts with cargo pockets, and black tennis shoes. Yup, some EMS providers have lowered their standards to par with airport baggage handlers! Nobody could confuse them as cops.

One of my instructors for EMT-B class was formerly the president of our university. He also worked as either an EMT-I or Paramedic at the same time, and was still assisting in instructing the class back then.

Apparently, the story goes that he was on the highway when somebody cut him off in his POV. He decided to turn on his blue lights and the driver immediately pulled over. He got out of his car, flashed some kind of badge or ID, and proceeded to rip the guy a new one for his driving.

Thus why he is referred to as formerly the president of our university.

And he is deserving of the infamous dip-sh*t of the year award as well.

Back when I was with a private company I always had people calling me Officer. This despite the fact we didn't wear badges or duty belts. Didn't bother me though.

As a former ramp agent (calling them baggage handlers is like calling EMTs ambulance drivers) I take offense to that:P But seriously, the t-shirt thing doesn't command much authority. It gets worse: I've seen EMTs wearing civvies!
