Hey guys, can somebody tell me what exactly the EMT-B practical exam is? I just passed the NREMT and when I look up my test results it says "written: passed" etc. Below that it says "practical results: N/A." Is that referring to the skills tests from my actual class? Do I need to have my program director take action to submit my results? If not I'd appreciate an explanation, I'm trying to figure out if that's something I need before I can get my state license. Thanks very much! (I live in CA if that makes a difference)

Did you take the NR practicals? Or just the ones in class?

Just the ones in my class. Never heard about the need to take another "practical exam." I'm not looking to work on an ambulance if that matters...

It doesn't matter. An EMT-B is an EMT-B, no matter where you work. you are held to the same standard as any other EMT-B

Thanks for the replies. So the "practical exam" the NREMT is referring to is definitely the skills testing from my class? Does that need to be submitted before I can receive my state license? Thank you.

Yes, thats the practicals you took in class. You can apply for your state cert, they just won't issue it to you until they see your practicals are in. Your instructor submits them, usually only takes a few days.

Are you sure. We had practicals in class, but that was for school. We went to the regional testing center after school was finished for the NR practicals. It was the same way for Basic, Intermediate, and Medic.

Practicals for B, I and P are not one in the same. I and P build off the Basic Practicals.

You need to contact your program and find out if you did in fact take the National Registry practicals. If not, you will have to find out when a school is doing NR practical testing and sign up to test with them.

Just because you did practicals with your class doesn't mean they count as the NR ones. Your class has to be an authorized testing school inorder for it to count as NR. Call your instructor/director and ask. If your school isn't authorized then you will have to go to a testing area that is authorized by the NR.

Well both my instructor/program director are MIA... I talked to one of the TA's who got his state license and he didn't know what I was talking about. He directed me to the county EMS website where they spell out their requirements for state licensing and nothing is mentioned about practical results. They just want proof of course completion, ID and NREMT card/cert copies... So I guess I'm good. Thanks for the replies, sorry I didn't look at that earlier, lol. PZ.
