Employment change in State, but out of City...?

Hello Family,

So, I have my EMT Cert, and it's good until 2021. However, I was provisionally offered a "desk Job" to be an assistant to a Chief in a FH in the Hudson Valley. The one caveat is that the qualifications need to be confirmed, and if I meet them I can apply. The change in income will be a little over double what I would make as a full time EMT, in the FDNY. If I were in the privates, the change would then be a 25% increase. I'm not in FDNY EMS at the moment, because it would be a pay cut from my current job. It would also require me to move (of which I would happily do so), but I then would not be able to run EMS calls in that FH. It's not 100% about the money, but realistically it does help. I think I am just seeking some advice on this potential job path change.

Any feedback is more than welcome.

So admittedly I'm a little confused on what the question is.
 
she has provisionally been offered a job as an admin, but she wouldn't be able to work in the field as a provider for that department. and it's a slight pay cut but more than she would make as an EMT. what do you think she should do? I didn't think it was that confusing.....

if you want to take the job, take the job. you can always work part time as an EMT for another agency, or volunteer somewhere as an EMT for clinical hands on experience to help people.

The question I would ask before you accepted the position is where do you see yourself in 5 years... 10 years.... 20 years, and does this position fit into whatever your long term career goals are. Is this a position a role that you can retire from in 20 years, or a job until you find something else that is better?

Exactly. Thanks for re-wording what I wrote. Didn't mean any confusion for anyone. Like I and you stated, I was offered an admin job for a Fire Chief. Which means as an Admin, I will be unable to run EMS calls for that department, as an EMT. I'm leaning toward the Admin job, and like you said, I can always volly or per diem elsewhere on the weekends. I see myself at this job in 5-10 years, yes. And it does fit into my long term goals. What I don't know is if I can retire from it in 20 years. I will ask the Captain today. Thanks!
