Ill finish my EMT-B class soon any I'll take my state certification in June, I was trying to at least volunteer in Virginia where I live but the Virginia Beach Volunteer EMS requires a perfectly clean driving record; but I have a reckless driving on my record and two speeding tickets from my senior year or high school (2010) i can't volunteer anywhere around here and all the jobs require same for record. Any advice ? I've already gone to drivers improvement class

If that's the requirement, you're options are:
-Move
-Don't work or volunteer in EMS unless you hit the jackpot and find a position that will allow you not to drive at all. Good luck with that; they are few, far between and you'll piss off anyone who gets stuck working with you because of it.

I honestly wish people would look into the career field more before signing up for the class. I think if more people realized all the hoops you have to jump through for a minimum wage job that is REALLY boring 99.99% of the time, we would have much less of a problem with oversaturation. That is also not to mention people with backgrounds similar to yours would not find themselves out a chunk of change with nothing to show for it.

Your only option really is to either find a job in a hospital or wait for those citations to fall off your MVR. But even then, with a reckless in some states that sticks around for a while and companies might choose not to hire you anyways, even as a medic, because they have so many other better qualified candidates.

california

i know in california, your allowed 3 minor infractions. like a 15 mile an hour over speed limit ticket. but a reckless im not sure. what did you get it for if u dont mind me asking? because ive heard of alot of dui's becoming recklesses after the person states what their goals are to the judge. CA is very strict on this sort of thing. im absolutly sure that in CA, with a dui will end an ems career because noone will let u drive an ambulance.

A month after my 19th birthday, I got my reckless for speeding 77 in a 55 on my way to school, I went to drivers improvement class but its still on my record.

Don't sweat it... they are NOT the only game in town. Once you finish up Basic and get your certification, try Chesapeake Auxiliary Fire/Rescue or Suffolk Fire/Rescue for volunteer opportunities. Also, you could go for a paid gig (IFT) with Medical Transport while finishing up your Paramedic studies. Chesapeake has been running a pilot program with 911 BLS rigs for some time now... another paid option for you this summer.
