Did Michael Jackson have only Paramedics attending to him, or also EMT's?

On another note. Does it really matter if EMT-1s are sent in addition to paramedics?

Thank you, didn't know LAFD staffed medic rigs, only ever ran into basic rigs....

All their ambulances are ALS unless they have an 8 in front of their station number on their unit (837, 871, 865). Whereas 37, 71, 65, 1 or 237, 271, 265 would all be ALS.

Correct. The "800" series are BLS, while all other Rescues (LAFD Ambulances) are ALS. I also agree with JP, there was an ALS response so any additional EMTs on the engine, etc, is incidental.

Not exactly incidental. It would make sense to have additional EMT resources for a cardiac arrest call.

No, I know that. I meant to answer the OP's question as to if paramedics or EMTs were on scene. As long as a single medic or more are on scene, ALS care is available regardless of the fact EMTs may be there to help. That is what I meant.

Agreed, help is needed for critical calls.

You can listen to the 911 dispatch tape on TMZ. One can hear that no name was given except a 50 year old male with breathing problems and that a physician was administering CPR.

I do doubt the arriving crew knew who it was PTA. I am sure there was some heated conversation as it was the physician on the scene that "demanded" that they work him. From some reports it appeared he had been down for a while. As well, now the reports are coming out that this "cardiologist" was not licensed in the state of California (or yet still being reported).

Sounds like a cluster, and glad it was one call I missed. Sympathy to the crew...

R/r 911

They can demand all they want if he fits the criteria he doesnt get worked.

The rig that responded to his house was a paramedic unit.

There is a picture of MJ on this site intubated. Must have been medics.

If physician is willing to take responsibility of patient all the way to the hospital and base hospital says it's acceptable, physicians on-scene can deviate from normal procedures as long as the assisting paramedics stay within their scope.

It's not often we have a private physician on-scene at a residence, so for the rare occurrence, I wouldn't mind trying to oblige if it wasn't a ridiculous request. Also, remember reports are saying there was a viable rhythm at one point and he was only 50. It wouldn't exactly be trying to transport someone in rigor....

Peter,
I think I may have figured out where you have some confusion. Did you by any chance do your ride along with McCormick in Redondo Beach? For some reason I've seen that redondo fire has their own FD ambulances however has McCormick transport for them. My only guess for this is that they used to transport and had all the ambulance rigs and then decided to go to the other system like LA Co FD, Torrance and Santa Monica and didn't convert to rescue squads. Don't quote me on that just my educated guess. The Redondo rigs look very similar to LA city rigs so that may have been the confusion.

With out knowing LA, I'd say once you give your address they have a very good idea of your income.

You saying every call gets 2 ambulances?

It should not be that way.

Here in Los Angeles, it appears that the Fire Department works with ambulance companies, so each 911 call gets both FD Paramedics and Ambulance Company EMT's, am I right?

But I didn't see an ambulance on the news yesterday. Usually I can spot the McCormick or Care or Schaefer Ambulance in the background on a news story about an accident around here.

Michael Jackson lived right off Sunset Blvd about a mile from UCLA. I think it is the city of Westwood.

I am just curious if EMT's went to his house. Maybe in some areas there are no private ambulance companies assisting LAFD.

AND, when a 911 call comes in, does the dispatcher know if it is a celebrity? Is there any list of certain addresses? I know they don't give the name of the person over the phone.

Are us EMT's sent to celebrity's houses?

Peter

Why not?

My ride along was in Hawthorne

I did my ride-along in Hawthorne, right at McCormick headquarters. We came back to that station after every call. Unless we got called before we got back.

The LAFD Paramedic units I saw looked like they had those glass doors on the back of their rigs, seemed to me they could transport a patient back there. But we always did.

We went over this . . .

You didn't run calls with LAFD on your McCormick Ambulance ride-along. They run with LACoFD, Redondo Beach FD (as someone explained), and possibly occasional backup for other cities.

I see now. I didn't see the difference before between LAFD and LACoFD.
So McCormick runs with LA County FD.

Thank you Anthony.
