Department Of Transportation EMT Permit

Good old Live Scan and California privacy laws. I had to get it twice because the DMV and OC EMS can't share information.

On the thought of costs, please stop complaining. Really, look at the education and licensing costs to become a physician. Step 1 and step 2 clinical knowledge are $480 each and step 2: clinical skills is over $1000. So, come on now, the few hundred dollars to be done is peanuts.

Stop complaining about your future costs, Future Dr. John Paul Ivan Ned Fabio Vanguard!

Thank you for your answer. Good to hear I'm not the only one who thinks this is pretty unfair.

Also, how ridiculous I have to pay for fingerprinting after having been life scanned 3 times already.

And for those who think I'm shady, this company who's hiring me does random testing, so Id be stupid to dope.

You are the one who chose to be an EMT. No one forced you into it. So you really don't have a leg to whine on about the costs. Perhaps a little research into licensing req's would have changed your mind.

No one called you shady, stop being paranoid.

Poor preplanning in career choosing. If you did not know the costs or expense prior, whose fault is it but your own? Really, if one plans upon going to school or a career would you not investigate all the costs, time and everything that would be involved?

Uh not much of an ambulance service then if they change numbers and don't leave a forwarding. I would also worry about job stability.

My first impression here was that the would-be employer would pay for the drug test. Mine did. Why would someone think that they should pay for a drug test for employment? Maybe for certification to drive, yes, but not employment.

He wasn't complaining about the costs of the drug tests, he was complaining about the cost of yet another certification, which, in this case, the employer is not reimbursing. And, it IS a money grubbing cert, perpetrated by just one city in the coverage area that most of us who have to have the cert run in. A method, honestly, for the city to make sure we're actually monitored for certain criminal offenses, since live scan for your EMT cert is not universal in surrounding counties yet (I work with one girl who goes several counties north for hers, because of this).

Granted, it's still no bueno to be complaining before you even start working!

Cough Kern County cough

To be fair, OC does the exact same thing (ambulance provider license), but even still it's only a fraction of the cost of LA City's DOT cert.

Yikes!!!!!!!

Reading all these makes me feel pretty good about where I work. My company pays for any classes that we are required to have.(PHTLS,PEPP,ACLS......alphabet soup....). They even paid for me to go through medic school. My department paid $1,000 and the hospital that employs us paid the other $2,500. I just had to sign a promisory note to work an hour for every dollar that they contributed. NOT A PROBLEM!! WHERE DO I SIGN UP? B)
