This seems like a no-brainer to me and I'm 99% sure I'm taking it but I thought I'd confirm my thoughts with the world:

My current goal is to be come a paramedic firefighter.

I just recently started working as a Security Officer/EMT at a Casino. I finally was interviewed by my first choice out of EMT School for initial experience - NorCal Ambulance Co just this last weekend and they offered me a position.

I should absolutely take it right? I know there are some perks to the Casino gig, but ultimately no rig experience, and your first job is Security, second is EMT. I can qualify the position a bit more if needed.

Take the NorCal job?

Thanks in advance,
FNG

Where are you more likely to interact with fire crews? Inside of a casino, or out and about in the streets, and/ or at the hospitals?

A lot of this job, especially for people wanting to get on with the fire department comes down to networking, and building that solid foundation.

Then again, I believe your question is a rhetorical one.

No, I didn’t mean to pose the question is rhetorical. I am very green to the industry and am genuinely seeking input.

I would say that is the strength to the casino job. You do more regularly interact with fire crews then you would in a private ambulance company doing patient transport.

Being a casino EMT I have zero experience with; being an ambulance EMT I have a tad more experience with. I would think that being on an ambulance would better prepare you for the role of a FFPM.

Interacting and networking certainly helps, but if you’re only interacting with one fire agency—like perhaps on the grounds of the casino only—you may become accustomed to only one agency’s way of doing things.

So yes, my opinion is that the ambulance job might open up more doors, and better opportunities for your future goals. Especially if you want to be a PARAMEDIC who occasionally fights fires:).

P.S.- I was teasing you about your post being rhetorical.

On that last note, I am one of those oddballs that actually does want more medical calls. Thanks so much for your advice!

Yes, take the NorCal job.

You’ll learn a hell of a lot more on the street than you will in a casino.

Take the Norcal Ambulance job, I've heard great things about the company. Plus it will be better experience, especially if your trying to go the firefighter paramedic way.
